Weekly Photo Challenge: Makeup Colours Edition

I decided to have a go at Yumeko’s Weekly Photo Challenge #6 – Makeup Colours Edition. I really enjoyed both Yumeko and Drivol about the Frivol's posts and I was interested to see how many items I would be able to find for each colour section, especially as I'm pretty boring when it comes to colour! Trying to work out which colour appears most in my makeup collection was enlightening too. Although it's probably taupe if you count my endless eyeshadows, I wanted to look for a colour which was repeated across all of my colour cosmetic products.

1. Black

Eyeshadows and Pigments: MAC Carbon, Illamasqua Pure Pigment in Zeitgeist* and Eyeshadow in Obsidian*.
Pencil and Liners: Rouge Bunny Rouge Raven Glaze Lacquer Liner, Hourglass Script and Kevyn Aucoin Basic Black Pencil*.

2. Brown

This is just a sample of my brown colours as I'm certain I've missed a quite a few eyeshadows and liners when I was rummaging around.

3. White

4. Orange [Colour of the Year according to Sephora]

Orange was especially hard to find in my collection so I hope you'll forgive the fact that most of these are more coral than orange. Three of the items are from the L'Oreal Miss Candy collection* which are due for review.

5. Purple: The most popular color amongst your makeup collection

Like brown, this is only a selection of my purples (and plums). Not all these colours suit me but I love purple and if I'm ever drawn to colour it's usually purple.

Face of the Day with Laura Mercier Cassis

This face of the day includes quite a few of the items I from my last neglected makeup challenge post. I started off my just applying the Sue Devitt Intensifier on it's own but found it looked a little stark. I wasn't sure how the Kjaer Weiss eyeshadow would look with it but was pleasantly surprised by the results.  The Laura Mercier Lip Velvet in Cassis is a lovely colour but it does show up every imperfections because of it's unusual texture. What's not visible to the naked eye becomes very obvious in the gigantic lip picture!

Sue Devitt Intensifier Pencil in Zaire

These are neglected items (actually in the case of Wicked, I'm not it's ever been used) but that doesn't necessarily mean they aren't great products or colours. There are certainly a couple of old favourites in this selection like the Kjaer Weiss eyeshadow, Up The Amp lipstick and Bobbi Brown Apricot blusher. It's easy for them to get forgotten in favour of newer items though. I was actually inspired to pull out Up The Amp after it was used on the model in the first look at Saturday's MAC Workshop.

Avon Nailwear Pro in Wicked

I'm really looking forward to incorporating all of these colours into my makeup looks this week. I think the challenge in this weeks selection will be the Laura Mercier Lip Velvet. The colour is beautiful and very autumnal but the texture is tricky to wear. It's a doe-foot applicator and although it's similar in opacity to a liquid lipstick, it feels quite dry on the lips. I might have to experiment pairing this with a lip balm or gloss.

I haven't forgotten my promise to post swatches of the Suqqu quad from my last neglected makeup post. I have the pictures and will post in the next couple of days. That eyeshadow quad is definitely not going to be neglected again and was probably my favourite item of the previous seven items.

Sue Devitt Intensifer Eye Pencils

I won these Sue Devitt Intensifer Eye Pencils as part of a Twitter giveaway a little while ago. I received the shades Zaire and Bangalore. Zaire is a beautiful plum and Bangalore is a metallic khaki green with gold. Both are really easy to wear colours that I think would suit most people.

The pencils and the other Sue Devitt items I received

The pencils are soft and creamy to apply and last well. Because of the texture and the size of the pencil, I struggle to get a fine line but to be honest, these look good as a thicker line lightly smudged with a finger. They're actually very good for a speedy eye look as one of these pencils and a few coats of mascara is enough to look like you've made more effort than you really have. I tried using the smudger on the end (if you look at the picture, you will see that I have two different styles of smudger) but I found it wiped the colour off rather than softening the edges.

The Sue Devitt range is available in the UK from the QVC website. The Eye Pencils cost £13.46 which I think is quite reasonable. I'm tempted by the sound of Tanzania as it's described as a bronzy brown, especially if the finish is similar to Bangalore. My experience with the other items I received was good too so I'd be interested to try more. Have you used any Sue Devitt products before? Do you have any recommendations?
