A Bit of Crochet and a Catch Up

Long time, no speak! I really don't know where the last few months have gone but I must be honest and say that they haven't included any makeup shopping and barely any lemmings. Instead, my free time has been occupied with lots of book reading, meeting new people and discovering new ways to waste time on the internet hobbies.

NoroGS

Thanks to my local WI (waves at the Tea Birds), I have learnt how to crochet. My principal motivation was not missing out on the opportunity to go to the pub every two weeks for Knit and Natter! I can't claim any particular expertise: I know these things are supposed to be relaxing but I have been known to suffer with yarn rage. However, I managed to keep up on my first crochet course at Purlesence last week and I seem to get as much pleasure poring over expensive wool online, as I did looking at taupe eyeshadow swatches. Who knew?! My current work in progress is a cushion cover made with Noro Silk Garden and I've just bought a knitting pattern (I have no idea if I can actually knit) in the hope of making this rainbow dress for Miss MB. I won't share how long I've wasted looking for the right shade of blue for this particular project. Maybe one day, when I grow up, I will pick a pastime that doesn't hoover up time and money like a vacuum.

Now, if you will forgive me, I want to share a few gratuitous family shots from the summer, as well some other highlights from the last couple of months.

I'm not sure whether my makeup blogging mojo will ever return properly. I do still enjoying wearing makeup and watching tutorials, but these days I tend to stick to wearing my tried and trusted staples and I find that's not great for inspiring blog posts.  However, I do have a few things I would like to review, so hopefully dipping my toe in with a bit of general chit chat will help me find my way back. Feel free to share what you've been up to, it would be lovely to catch up on your news too.

  1. Lovely to hear from you, I had to laugh at the yarn rage :)
What cheeky little faces your little ones have :)
I was thinking that there does seem to be quite a few beauty blogs gone now from when I first started, I do wonder if its a finite thing, I know I need to stop soon because of how much its costing me :)

    1. Hi Clare, my children are definitely cheeky herberts!

I know what you mean about a number of blogs disappearing, I think it can become tricky to sustain writing if you don't keep buying new things. I've not been able to justify new makeup for so long that I've got out of the habit of looking! I wasn't sure I would have enough willpower to stop buying more taupes but maybe it's finally happened :D xx

  2. Jane, I'm so happy to see this post! I hope you continue in some way so that we can all gather and chat. :) I didn't know you had three little ones. They are adorable and look like your summer was so fun. Looks like Summer Pamper evening was a success!
Oh no, I don't want Clare to stop blogging! But I echo the sentiment about the expense of keeping it all going plus having consistent interest which seems to ebb and flow over time. I've stopped buying so lets see how it all goes. I shall be a partner in resisting all the taupes. :DD

    1. I'm very happy to have a partner to keep me on the straight and narrow, taupe wise! Yes, I have three little rascals but the boys haven't made much of an appearance in resent years. All three are very keen on hogging the laptops now, which doesn't help with blogging when the mood takes me. I've really missed nattering though.

  4. I was thinking of you today since I'm working on organizing The Beauty Spotlight Team. You are missed and if you ever want back in, just let me know.
Your kids are adorable and probably loved having mommy extra time this summer.

    1. It's lovely to be remembered Marcia. We really did have a nice summer, I just can't get over how quickly time flies. I wouldn't have guessed it had been so long since I last posted!

  5. Lovely to see you posting again! I would love to learn to crochet but I fear I lack the patience needed. I'm very jealous that you have joined a WI, I've looked but there are non local to me, I should maybe start one. I hope your blogging mojo returns even if it's to just talk about "stuff" rather than beauty.

    1. Thanks Daniella. Re: WI, I've loved going to the local meetings and 'knit and natter' groups. Our last meeting was a crafting session, we made some fab little bits and pieces. If you can't find a meeting, it's definitely worth investigating getting started particularly if you can get some friends involved.

  6. Cute kids :) I have been taking a break as well, and it is hard to get back to blogging once my regular posting schedule is gone.

    1. Thanks Martha. I guess you are back to home-schooling now, after the summer? I imagine the planning aspect of that is quite time consuming, so I'm always impressed that maintain blogging too. If you ever fancy going off topic, I'd love to read more about your experience of home-schooling :)

  7. SO nice to read a new post of yours. It always is, whether you're writing about taupe eye shadows or home projects or anything else. I'm sure it gets extremely expensive to buy enough makeup to keep your blog going to your satisfaction (tho I personally enjoy when you write about non-new items--or about something other than makeup entirely). Anyway, I hope you continue as the whim takes you. I'll definitely keep checking back to see what you have to say! :)

  8. I am in the same boat! I had some setbacks with the technical side of my blog and just haven't gotten the mojo back since then. I still enjoy reading, though.

Glad to hear you and the kids are doing well!
