This brings me on to my other reason for cutting it off. I stopped colouring my hair several months ago now. My hair has quite a peppering of grey (or nordic blonde as the hairdresser referred to it) and the difference between my natural colour and the brassy remains of colour on the length had been getting on my nerves for a while. The thought of cutting out all the old colour has been niggling at me for a while, but I've talked myself out of it previously.
PRE-CUT
Both Xiao of Messy Wands and Kate from Drivel About Frivol must be credited with inspiring this radical change. I used this Pinterest board that Kate linked to, to create a montage of pictures to take to the hairdressers. The hairdresser was fantastic too, she gave me lots of styling/drying tips and planted the seed of an idea to try out some wild colours that will only show up on my grey hair. Anyway, I'll stop blithering now and show you what it looks like.
Thankfully, none of the children cried when I came home or said they hated it. Although, Mr. MB did make fun of me this morning when I had a rather spectacular case of spiky bed head. I'm looking forward to getting to grips with styling it over the Christmas holiday.
I shall leave you with a quick look at my current festive manicure. I'm wearing China Glaze Ruby Pumps and thanks to some diligent(ish) use of Dr. Lewinn's Renunail, my nails are in much better shape at the moment.
Blimey, that REALLY suits you! If you'd have asked me before whether I thought it would work for you, I would have said no. But just shows how much I know, it looks fantastic! x
ReplyDeleteThanks Leanne, I'm so pleased I braved it x
DeleteI love it! You look so great :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Ki!
DeleteI like it, it's rather chic and it makes your eyes stand out more.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about my eyes. I still really need a new pair of glasses and I'm kind of pleased I waited to get them know. It'll be interesting to see what style of glasses suit this cut.
Deletelooking good! I agree with Meeta above, it really makes your lovely eyes stand out more x
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteOh my goodness it is beautiful! It is very youthful and fresh. I am thinking I need a good haircut soon too :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Martha. It felt very liberating having it all chopped off!
DeleteLooking lovely Jane. Can't wait to see you try some interesting colours on the grey.
ReplyDeleteClaire
xx
Thanks Claire. I've been doing some research into the colour the evening. I'm also itching to try styling into a quiff the minute school is out :D x
DeleteYou look lovely Jane.

Very nice! Bring on the funky colour...
ReplyDeleteThank you for helping me go for it via Twitter yesterday. I think a change is just what I needed.
DeleteI really, really like it. I vote for purple ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Grace. I mentioned your lilac streak when the hairdresser was mentioning colours yesterday. I'm fancying either a really deep blue or purple. I can't decide whether or not I should lighten a larger section within my fringe to 'enhance' my grey?
DeletePS. I wore the Batgirl Cons to ward off any ideas about giving me a frump cut ;)
I really like it UN-styled, too! Ah, nails are so festive. LOVE IT all!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane. I explained in advance to the hairdresser that messy was my kind of style!
DeleteLOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteThank you :D
DeleteI came to the comments just to say this: it looks FANTASTIC. Winner all around.
ReplyDeleteI went the pixie route myself a couple of months ago, and I have some unsolicited thoughts to share about styling. If you don't currently own these products, I suggest you get ahold of a decent styling lotion or gel (look for "light hold" or "flexible"), a small tub of a good moderate-to-strong hold pomade, and another small tub of very strong hold styling wax.
After you shower, rub a nickelish sized amount of the styling lotion between your palms and smooth it all over your hair. Then take a very small amount of the pomade, mix it between your fingers, and "shape" your hair how you want it to sit. And you're done!
If you have sections that refuse to stay still or you want some more hold, especially in the bangs, add a bit of the wax (or on a humid day, substitute the wax for the pomade). I'll typically add some wax to the tips of my bangs. Happy styling!
Thank you so much for the product and styling tips Liz, these are so welcomed. I realised earlier that I need to purchase a new brush (or two) as my old paddle brush just isn't going to cut it.
DeleteIt really makes your eyes pop! Can't wait to see all the new makeup looks that this cut will inspire.
ReplyDeleteThanks Neena, I'm pleased you like it.
DeleteI completely love it!! It totally opens up your lovely face and makes you look fresh, young, sparkly eyed and really rather sexy and I am SO impressed by how brave you were to go for it!! xx
ReplyDeleteTwitter helped me do it! I'm so grateful to the girls on there who gave me the confidence to go for it. I'm thrilled with the results too xx
DeleteYou look lovely! I know whatcha mean by getting a grip on styling it; I recently cut my hair much shorter and got sideswept bangs. Only my fringe didn't know it was supposed to be sideswept yet (took awhile to make it not stand straight up in the morning!) :)
ReplyDeleteHi EmmyJean, your fringe story made me chuckle knowingly, having experienced that before. Hair sometimes needs to be trained to fall the right way!
DeleteLove it!!
ReplyDeleteCharli...
Thanks Charli :)
DeleteLooks amazing! x
ReplyDeleteThanks H. I can't wait for the end to the school run so I can get experimental with it! :D x
DeleteGorgeous! Makes you look refreshed!
ReplyDeleteIt's WONDERFUL! I actually like the "unstyled" version best--it frames your face so beautifully. What a smart decision! I got a pixie (a bit shorter, even, than yours) a year and a half ago and loved it. (Like you, I did in part it to get rid of colored hair as I let my gray come in). It did wonders for my face--I looked brighter and younger. Of course, I'm now (slowly) growing it out...but I'm sure I'll go back to it eventually. Anyway, congrats on your cut. It looks so good. Hope you have a lot of fun with it!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I think the greys look great with the cut. I recently watched a movie with Monica Belucci and she had her greys showing and she still looked as hot as you!
ReplyDeleteI love the new style on you--it completely suits you! And what lip are you wearing in the 'post-blow dry' photo? It's stunning!
ReplyDeleteYou look adorable!! I love it. I bet you have fun with styling it and seeing how great your FOTD looks with this new look.
ReplyDeleteOh there is that pretty face!!! You look more sophisticated and focused. Your makeup will look even better as your features will not be hidden by hair distraction.
ReplyDeleteI LIKE IT!!!!!
Love it, and the nails too.
ReplyDeleteYour new cut brings out your fresh personality. I am 53 and have had a streak of royal purple in my dark brown/silver hair for the past 8 years. I decided 3 colors were too much and let the purple grow out until my most conservative son told me that I was "more me with it than without". Go for it - have fun! Purple glasses would also be great! I use many of the colors you review so I know you can pull it off. Plus, my mother hates it which is still fun at this age- lol!
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastic Susan! You will be pleased to hear that I have purchased some Crazy Colour in Hot Purple! Although I've already bleached a section to colour, I keep forgetting to acquire gloves so I can get my purple on. Thank you for inspiring me to go for it :D
DeleteSo very nice
ReplyDeleteLove this! I'm constantly toying with the idea of chopping mine off, but I'm always nervous about what the result might look like, especially when it starts to grow out. Looks fantastic on you, I must say.
ReplyDeleteIts a big change, I really like it. It really makes your eyes stand out. Ofcourse the back of your neck will get a bit more chilly, see thats the mum in me talking... ;) xx
ReplyDeleteThe many scarves I own have come in so very handy!! xx
DeleteI adore that haircut on you. It lifts your entire face up, and those glasses are smashing. You look very chic.
ReplyDeleteHee hee on the cold neck. Replica is right, though. :D
Very chic and youthful! It really does make your pretty blue eyes stand out even more than before! :)
ReplyDeleteFabulous - you've inspired me to sort my locks out now! Hope you and your family had a lovely Christmas xoxo
ReplyDeleteLike the new 'do. It's very cute.
