Kevyn Aucoin 'The Creamy Glow' in Liquifuchsia

Kevyn Aucoin Liquifuchsia* is a really eye-popping hot pink cream blusher. I took this pictures quite a while ago and looking at them really cheered me up as not only is it so sunny, it's obviously quite warm. Whereas today, it is so cold that I am losing the feeling in my toes!

In the picture above the blusher seem very dewy (I refuse to use the 'M' word) but having used it this morning, I would say that it is creamy but slightly drier in texture than my other cream blushers. It feels almost spongy in the pan. It produces more of a stained effected rather than a dewy glow but it is possible that it will become more glossy as the weather warms again. It is densely pigment but it is still possible to apply a light layer with a careful hand. I applied it using my fingers, tapping them first onto the back of my hand to avoid going overboard on the cheek. I didn't feel like risking Aunt Sally cheeks to go with my Worzel Gummidge hair!

Liquifuchsia makes Edward Bess Island Rose look quite muted in comparison: Liquisfuchsia is definitely pink rather than rosy. Colourwise, I think the closest shade I have to this is my MAC Tippy blusher from the Hello Kitty collection. Like Island Rose, I find it will accentuate any naturally rudiness in my face so I do need to apply with care. It is a fun colour and a good one to choose if you're feeling pasty and in need of an injection of colour.

Reader Query About Edward Bess Compact Rouge

I had a query from a reader recently about the Edward Bess Compact Rouge colours that I own. I thought it might be helpful to post some pictures to help answer the question and I also have a question that you might be able to help answer too.

Firstly, the reader wanted to know if After Sunset could be a little muddy and whether or not Island Rose would be too bright? Her skin is fair with a tendency to light ruddiness. I like Island Rose but I have mentioned before that I need to be careful with it. If I'm too heavy handed or haven't used foundation, this colour can make me look very flushed. I think for anyone that is prone to ruddiness, this could be an awkward colour. I tend to use in combination with bronzer to avoid looking like I've gone overboard with the rouge.

After Sunset is a harder colour to explain. It is quite brown but on my skin it pulls rosy so I don't find it looks muddy. I really like this cheek colour and I use it quite often as it gives a natural look. I would be very interested to hear from anyone that has used it and found it does pull too muddy on their complexion.

The question that I wanted to put to you all is a texture question. I was asked how the texture of the Compact Rouge compares to both BECCA and Le Metier de Beaute creme blushers. I only have the BECCA to compare to and wondered if anyone had experience of all three and could help? The reader finds BECCA and LMdB creme blushers too emollient. I fear that the Compact Rouge might be too emollient also but wondered what everyone else thought? I find the BECCA and Edward Bess quite similar in texture, I think that Edward Bess might have the edge actually but I don't find either to be too greasy or slippy on my skin. In the past, I found the MAC Blushcremes to have a texture that couldn't comfortably wear.

I would really appreciate your input on this one!

My Cream Blush Collection

I've mentioned before my love of cream blushers. I find them (on the whole) very easy to wear and they can give more of a natural look than powder. I have to admit that not all formulas are equal. I had a MAC Blushcreme which I didn't get on with and a terrible Aunt Sally moment with a Ruby + Millie cream stick. The ones I'm showing here a lovely in terms of both texture and colour.

I've included links to previous posts so you can see the colours applied wherever possible. Illamasqua Rude looks like a scary colour both in the pan and swatch but this is a lovely blusher and is especially nice for warmer weather. BECCA Turkish Rose and Edward Bess After Sunset are both great for a natural blush effect and probably the cream version of the pinky-brown colours I talked about in my recent Douceur comparison post. Both the BECCA and Edward Bess formulas are particularly enjoyable and easy to use.

Stila Orchid and EB Island Rose are both a little harder for me to wear. Orchid in particular is quite dark so I need to use a light hand. It is a lovely colour though and great for the cooler months. I've said before that Island Rose is quite similar to the colour I flush naturally, so this is one I can't wear without foundation. It's really easy to blend though which makes it nice to work with.

Hourglass Aura Cheek Stain in Rouge isn't strictly a cream blusher but as a non-powder cheek colour, I thought it deserved a mention. It was interesting for me to see the colour compared too. It's a pretty rose shade and similar to Turkish Rose in depth of colour but without the brown undertone. As a stain it produces a lovely sheer colour too.
