I've been meaning to buy the nine drawer Alex for a few month now. I needed something bigger than my old plastic four drawer unit and more aesthetically pleasing. As before, the drawers sit inside my wardrobe so that my makeup is hidden away from prying eyes.
It's not as ordered as I would like it to be and I need to buy more boxes or separators to make the most of the drawer space. For now I'm using small plastic containers, Jo Malone and Zuneta boxes and there's even a rogue Glossybox in there. I do hope to find some purpose built organisers for lipsticks etc. but I know some of them may be too deep for the drawers.
Here's a little peep at what's inside...
Face products (minus foundation)
Eyeshadows palettes, foundations, lipsticks and pencils
Eyeshadow - singles, customs palettes and some more pre-made palettes
Nail polishes
Skin care, treatments and hair care
Lip glosses, makeup brushes and other miscellaneous items
Although my makeup is now in reasonable order, my perfume, bath and skincare items remain here, there and everywhere. The majority of it is split between my bedside table and the overflowing baskets in the bathroom. If any of you have any inspired ideas about how to tidy that up whilst keeping it accessible, I'd welcome some advice.
It all makes sense now! That is a lovely way to store your makeup!
ReplyDeleteYes, there was a reason for my madness in venturing into IKEA! It was definitely worth it.
DeleteYAAAAY look at all that makeup! Heaven!!! :D
ReplyDeleteI confess, when I filled it up, I kept opening the drawers to admire the makeup!
DeleteThat is a lovely storage system. I need to reorganise my stash too!
ReplyDeleteI first saw the Alex on another bloggers post which gave me the idea. I live in hope that one day I will be organised enough to use it all efficiently :D
DeleteI am impressed! I don't have storage, I think there is something seriously wrong with me to be honest, I just have a small make up bag and it contains the few things that I am currently using every day. Every so often I get fed up and down grade make up that is cluttering the stuff I am actually using from my "every day bag" into a "holding bag" in my dressing table. Sadly, there is no return from the holding bag. On a regular basis its contents gets tipped into the "bin bag". I have even recently found myself looking at new eye shadows and not buying them because if I mix 2 shades from the Naked palette it will result in a colour that isn't dissimilar to the one I was going to buy. There is a mythical shade of eye shadow that I want but can never find - its the colour of Sidecar without all that chunky glitter, that one I WOULD buy if I could only find it! I fear I am not a true beauty blogger at all am I?!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I wish mine was still as compact as that. It started to get out of hand about 6 months before I started blogging. I'm certain I would do just as well with one bag of well edited favourites. I'm always admire your sensible approach to not buying duplications.
DeleteNicely organized! I have the same issue with perfume, bath and skincare. They're everywhere. I'm using the vanity in our master bathroom that's completely full. This is a good idea! xx
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to store those sorts of bottles, isn't it? We don't really have decent storage in either bathroom.
DeleteNice stash! I have the Alex, but the shorter, wider version. I love it. I put cutlery dividers in there to organise things a bit more :)
ReplyDeleteI looked into getting the one you have. Unfortunately it's a couple of centimetres too deep to fit in my wardrobe. I do like the style of the Alex very much.
Deleteooooh thank you for showing us this, thats a fine piece of storage and I love having a nose at all your stuff! xx
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. The novelty still hasn't worn off! I've been looking at Muji for more dividers too. I don't think I'm anywhere as organised with any other area of my life :D xx
Deletewow! I need one of those. What is the tube of 'Antipodes' in the 6th picture please if you don't mind me asking, I'm intrigued for some reason! x
ReplyDeleteThe tube in that picture is their Deliverance Hand Cream. I'm forcing myself to finish off some of my other tubes before I'll allow myself to break the seal on this one!
DeleteOh my gosh this is just what I've been looking for as storage - thank you! Would love to see more detailed photos of all your stuff :) x
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased it was useful for you Claire. I'd be happy to oblige with more detailed pictures, I've never been sure whether anyone would be interested to see. Would you prefer to see if as separate posts for different types of products? x
DeleteI love this storage! Exactly what I need to hide from the boyfriend just how much stuff I have... quite ashamed of my stash, especially when he peers at it and says "oh, so, how much did you spend to get all this stuff?"... aaaargh men...
ReplyDeleteHi Juls, I know exactly what you mean about the "how much?" comments! What they can't see, won't hurt them ;)
Deleteheaven! so much makeup to adore! wondering how long do you keep your products tho! esp. eyeshadows and blush, since I do have some collections that seems to never run out. so I'm very concern about rather I should splurge on more product. been looking at burberry's eyeshadow lately, but as you know they are singles, I'll never be able to finish using all of them in couple of yrs.
ReplyDeleteI don't tend to throw powder products away unless they have changed texture. If used carefully and kept out of the light, I think you're safe to use your own judgement rather than use by dates. I go by smell and texture when it comes to working out if something is passed its best. Creams and liquids will go off much faster of course.
DeleteThanks for sharing your makeup storage! I've been contemplating getting one (or more) of these Ikea units for a long time. I definitely need to find something that will hold all of my nail polish. As it is now it takes me way too long to find something when I want to use it! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased you liked the post MM. My no existent nail polish storage was one of the main things that spurred me on to buy the Alex. It's so much better now that I can access everything quickly!
DeleteGlad that it's made you happy. I too have an Alex and it has Muji bits'n'pieces in side for further organisation. Unfortunately there is no room in a wardrobe for the thing and my 1 yr old pickle likes to open and mess - it scares me greatly. I have an ikea Expedit with some bawsket drawers, one of which, for example, I put hair products in - it does keep the mini monster away from the sprays etc and is tidier than just out.
ReplyDeleteWhich bookends did you get an are they OK? Am on a hunt for practical bookends that don't cost a million pounds and have failed miserably so far!
Thanks for sharing
We purchased these Skribent book-ends. I prefer them to the metal ones they offer that clip onto shelves. Since I bought them, I've spotted several more that I like. These from GLTC and various cute styles from Sass and Belle.
DeleteIt's funny you should mention the Expedit baskets as the same weekend I bought this, we purchased some of the drawers to replace our baskets. Miss MB was a dab hand at pulling out the baskets and their contents!
