Rouge Bunny Rouge Blusher Brush (002)

I've had the Rouge Bunny Rouge Blusher Brush (002) for quite a long time now. I mentioned it when I reviewed the RMK Cheek Brush last year and fully intended to post a review soon after. At the time, I'd added a number of blusher brushes to my collection and this one got a bit side lined. In fact, my love of this brush has been quite a slow burner but I do think of it as one of my favourites now.

Top to Bottom: RBR Contour Brush, RBR Blusher Brush and RMK Blusher Brush

The RBR Blusher Brush is a super soft, paddle shaped brush. It doesn't provide resistance like the contour brushes that I generally favour for blush application and this is probably why it took a while to grow on me. Instead, what it is excellent for is adding a sweep of vibrant or shimmery colour. I pick up this brush when I want to apply a colour like NARS Orgasm, Desire or Illamasqua Morale. It feels so beautiful to the touch that I do have to fight the urge to go overboard with the colour!

I haven't experienced any shedding with this brush, like I did with the RBR Face Contour (012) brush. As with my other squirrel hair brushes, it does give off an animalic smell when wet but this fades once dry. I find it keeps its shape well through washing and storage.

The Rouge Bunny Rouge face brushes are expensive but I would say they are quality tools and comparable to Hakuhodo and RMK brushes, so worthy of an investment. I use both 012 and 002 to apply blusher, despite the fact that the 012 is designed for applying contour. If you're trying to decide on one rather than buying both, I would say that your blusher choice and/or style of application will dictate your decision somewhat. If you use mostly neutral pink or subtle blushers and like to work the colour in, you'll get on well with 012. If you like a sheer veil of vibrant colour, go for 002.

The Rouge Bunny Rouge Blusher Brush is available from Zuneta and costs £47. Rouge Bunny Rouge is also available from Beautyhabit.com for those of you in America.

  1. What timing! I seem to have lost my blush brush - I only own one - so am on the look out for a new one. Not sure I can part with £47 for it though!

    1. If you need a replacement quickly, how about this Royal & Langnickel one from Cocktail Cosmetics. I was eyeing it up yesterday. I hesitated over the fact that it is synthetic but I bet it feels lovely. You can get 15% more off the bits in the Special Offers section too with the code Summer15.

I really rate the MAC 168 brush for blusher too. It's another contour brush though so it may not suit you application style?

    2. Is the 168 the white angled looking brush? I've been looking for a slightly bigger brush to my MAC 109 that I'm using at the moment.

Dunno.... £47 is quite steep. I don't mind splashing the cash... I'm sure it must be worth it if you've got it ;-)

Also had my eye on the Nars Yachiyo Kabuki brush which is a highly rated brush for blush and contouring.

    3. Yes, the 168 is the white angled brush. Although I've bought many brushes since, I still use this one a lot.

I have heard that the NARS Yachiyo is a little scratchy, so maybe it's worth having a feel before buying? I have a Hakuhodo Yachiyo and it's lovely. I wouldn have recommended it but unfortunately, Hakuhodos prices going up coupled with HMRC reducing the VAT waiver threshold, mean that you would be stung for customs fees at this end :(

    4. Oh. I didn't know that about the NARS brush. Yeh, I will definitely check it out in person before parting with the cash. Thanks! x

  2. I'm not sure I have an 'application style' as such. Blush is a new thing for me, since following Mrs Hirons' advice I've managed to calm the high colour in my cheeks so I'm experimenting still. Your link is very interesting, thanks, I may have to go for that one.

I'm not sure if you received my message about the Chantecaille Just Skin and Future Skin samples. I've actually discovered I like both, Future skin applied with fingers, or Just Skin applied with a brush, but ... I've also just tried the YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat, and I'm liking that too. So many to choose from :0)

    1. That's great that you've manage to deal with high colour with Caroline's help. It's something I do suffer with and I didn't start using blush until a couple of years ago. I feel a bit bare without it now!

I did get your message about the Chantecaille, thank you so much for letting me know how you found the samples and my apologies at not having replied yet. I've been rubbish at managing my time recently. I have to admit that I'm not all that tempted by the YSL. Maybe I'm losing my touch! :D

    2. It may be worth a sample. I don't think it's quite as good as the Future Skin for me, but I find it very light with good coverage and it's half the price, and it has an SPF which the Future Skin doesn't have. In the meantime I'm using Just Skin whilst I dither over which will be my autumn/winter choice.
