Chantecaille Tiger in the Wild Palette

Almost two years ago now, I considered the Chantecaille Tiger in the Wild palette to be something I had missed out on. So, when I spotted it half price in the SpaceNK, I decided to treat myself to the one that (nearly) got away.

After all that waiting and wanting, I've not used this palette as much as I expected to. The colours are pretty, the grey taupe is my favourite, followed by the slightly plummy tinged navy. The base colour is a touch too dark and shimmery for me to use it as an alternative to my much loved MAC Brule. I'm not convinced that the blusher really works for me either and I prefer the blusher from the Chantecaille Turtles palette.

Without doubt, the colours look less multi-dimensional once the overspray has gone. I find the eyeshadows are quite powdery and they're not as creamy or pigmented as my favourite brands. I know I could probably have created a similar look using eyeshadows of a superior quality, however I am pleased with how this particular look turned out.

I applied the taupe from lash to crease using a MAC 217 and then applied the base colour from the edge of the taupe to the brow. I pushed the navy along the outer 2/3rds of the lashline using the tip of a MAC 239 brush, pulling it out slightly at the outer corner.

This close up tells me it's probably time to discard my mascara! On the rest of my face I'm wearing RBR Time-Defying Foundation in Quinoa Cream down the centre of my face, Clinique Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector and Perricone MD No Concealer Concealer on my undereyes and Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage SC-3 on the beast of a spot I stupidly fiddled with. I'm also wearing the blusher from the palette and a tonne of lip balm.

    1. Hi Priya! Yes, it's a very pretty palette. It almost feels wrong using it and spoiling it! xx

  2. When I bought the Dolphin one my feelings were similar. It's pretty but once the overspray was gone it just wasn't as appealing. The quality isn't quite as nice as regular Chantecaille shadows either.

    1. They definitely lose some of their beauty once that overspray has gone. Next time I feel tempted by one of their palettes, I will force myself to buy a couple of singles instead!

  3. It looks lovely on you, it is a nice everyday palette to have in your collection. Its funny you say about the texture as I have read a few reviews now that say there is a change in the quality of the shadows in the palettes, I found one of my oldest Chantecaille single shadows when doing a clear out and the texture of that does feel better and it seems to apply better as well so I might hold back on anymore palettes for now and pick up one of the newer singles to compare xx

    1. I only have one of the singles to compare to but it's definitely a different texture, much smoother and more refined. I've had my eye on a few of their singles for ages so I think I'll be holding back on the palettes in favour of the singles too xx

    1. Thank you NI. My scarf is an old one and I would guess at either being from M&S or New Look. I'm a sucker for the animal prints! x

  5. I bought this palette last week...one of the Chantecaille counters happened to still have one left, though I've since noticed it's still available on the Chantecaille site. That's so great you got it for 1/2 price!!! I haven't used it yet, but am really looking forward to it as I've never tried any of the brands makeup before!! Disappointing to hear about the powdery texture...hmmm...since I've not tried any Chantecaille before maybe I won't know any better???!! LOL I hope so!

    1. Hi Gummy Vision! It's very useful to know that you can still pick it up at counters and it hasn't completely sold out. I am sure you will enjoy it, even if it is a little different in texture to the singles. I have definitely been spoiled by brands like RBR in terms of my expectations!

  6. Thanks for the review. I'm sorry you don't love the palette. And yet it does look wonderful on you (especially with your short hair and great animal-print scarf!). But shadow quality makes such a difference doesn't it? I'm a big fan of Chantecaille and have several of their shadow singles but have never tried one of their palettes. I guess I won't start with Tigers in the Wild... ;)

(On a separate note, I was too busy to read blog posts last week (I know, the horror) so I was delighted to turn on the computer this morning and see so many posts from you last week. Feels like Christmas! :) Can't wait to read them all.)

    1. Oh, thank you Sam. Receiving your lovely comment absolutely made my day! I've been finding it difficult to blog for several months but I've been making a concerted effort to get over the 'hump'. The fact that you were pleased to see more posts gave me a much needed boost :D

The fact that so many people have mentioned their enjoyment of the Chantecaille singles makes me eager to go out and finally buy a few that I've had my eye on for ages (read years!).

  7. Those eye shades are very flattering on you! I missed out on this palette, but I have the sea turtle palette, which is a bit similar. Now I am coveting the shark palette -- oh Chantecaille, why must you be such a temptress?... :)
