Pai Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser

I have been using Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser by Pai Skincare for a couple of months now. The cleanser is recommended for all skin types and comes with an exfoliating muslin cloth. I always remove cream cleansers with a damp muslin and I have never tried using this with cotton wool so my review is based only on this method of removal. It is possible to use this on cotton wool to remove eye makeup but I haven't used it this way.

I really like the dispensing mechanism and find it's very easy to use even with slippery hands. One pump dispenses enough to remove all of my makeup completely. I tend it rub it between my palms to warm slightly before massaging over my face. The cleanser has a nice creamy consistency and has a lovely rose scent. It cuts through makeup quickly and removes eye makeup too (not all mascara though). It's easy to remove all traces of makeup and cleanser using the muslin cloth.

I was reluctant to try the muslin to start with. It's made of unbleached material and felt quite stiff, I feared that it would be too abrasive (I have damaged my skin in the past using cloths that were too rough) but I need not have worried. Once the cloth is damp it is soft and I find it to be of very good quality. It has enough texture to gently exfoliate the skin and remove the cleanser without feeling scratchy.

The cleanser leaves my skin feeling thoroughly clean and hydrated. Although the details on the box say that you do not need to use a separate moisturiser at night after using this, I always use a moisturiser after cleansing. This is partly force of habit but I'm not sure the cleanser would be enough on it's own for my skin.

Ingredients (from the Pai website)
Aqua, camellia sinensis leaf oil*, ricinus communis seed oil*, prunus amygdalus dulcis oil*, cetearyl alcohol, glycerin*, butyrospermum parkii butter*, cetearyl glucoside, sodium anisate, mixed tocopherols, rosa damascena oil*, pelargonium graveolens flower oil*, sodium levulinate, lavandula angustifolia oil*, lactic acid, litsea cubeba fruit oil*, sodium lauroyl lactylate.

The Camellia & Rose cleanser is suitable for all skin types including sensitive and allergy-prone skin. As with all Pai products it is free from irritating chemicals, artificial fragrance and alcohol and the products are certified organic by the Soil Association. The Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser (100ml) plus cloth costs £25. Pai Skincare is available from www.beingcontent.com and www.lovelula.com as well as their own website.

  1. I've used this cleanser for the past three months or so and really like it. I used the riceplant and rosemary toner in this range too but I found I got through it really quickly although I did enjoy the moisturising effect it had on my skin. The rosehip oil is nice too. A really nice brand.

    1. Hi Justine, I'm pleased to hear you're another fan. I keep meaning to try their toners. I don't have one on the go at the moment and really feel like I need to add one to my routine.

    1. Ha ha!! It's a lovely brand. What sort of thing to you think they need to expand the line with? As I was just saying above, I think I need to try one of their toners next x

    2. I'm thinking a night cream and they should bring out haircare, I don't want much....
I've bought both of their toners, actually I need to review their other one, they are nice but I go through them so quick and they seem more spendy for the size you get compared to the rest of the line x

    5. It looks interesting, doesn't it? I'm definitely tempted to give it a try. On another, 'nother note, did you see that some of the new matte RBR shades are already on Zuneta? There's a dusty mauve taupe. I may have wept!! x

    6. I think I'll see what the initial reviews are like and then give it a go if they are good, I thought the price wasn't too bad either.
Gah I had not seen any new RBR shades on there, even though I go and click of their whats new tab often (sad that I am). Typical that I recently just spent quite a bit on Chanel, will somehow have to get hold of husbands credit card....
Thanks for the heads up (she says whilst trying to block out Jane's weeping) I think you need to give your family a detailed RBR list for your birthday xx

  3. The texture of this feels very comforting but not overwhelming which I like. I also really like Pai's muslin cloths, they feel much nicer then other ones I've tried.

    1. You describe it perfectly Meeta. I would be tempted to get another of their muslins. They feel padded almost as they're quite thick cloth.

  4. I have the Pai cloths too and I know what you mean - they are a little toughter than others. I have some finer Japanese ones that I bought from Ebay too, and I use those when I want some gentler exfoliation.

Some nice ingredients in the Pai cleanser :)

    1. I'd be interested to hear more about the Japanese cloths, have you blogged about them? I've taken skin off the tops of my cheeks before with cloths that are too rough. Ordinary baby muslins are certainly too rough for the job.
