This Julie Hewett lipstick in Nude Noir has been missing, presumed lost for a very long time. It re-appeared at the bottom of the pushchair (I suspect little hands were at work) and so I thought it would be a good time to share my thoughts and pictures. Just in case it goes missing again!
Nude Noir is a dark, slightly peachy nude. It contains quite a lot of micro-shimmer which I would say gives it an almost metallic finish. I would probably reach for this colour more if it had a satin finish. Metallic/frosty lipsticks tend to remind me of my first very forays into makeup and so they will always have a slightly dated feel to me. Nevertheless, I still think Nude Noir is quite wearable.
The lipstick texture is comfortable to wear. It feels creamy but not balmy, the colour lasts well and it doesn't dry my lips. This is the sort of colour I don't mind wearing when I will be eating and drinking too as it doesn't look peculiar as it fades.
The Julie Hewett line is probably best known for the reds and I have my eye on a few of the sheers. I think I've narrowed it down to Gem Noir (you can see it here on London Makeup Girl) but I also like the look of both Film Noir and Oona Noir. This lipstick came from Mise Beauty who ship worldwide. The Julie Hewett Noir lipsticks cost £18 and Mise stock both the original and sheer formulas.
Disclosure: The item was sent to me without cost for consideration for review.
Rofl Em is stood next to me and as I was looking at your pics of this she said "oh my god, she looks like your long lost sister"!! What she should have have said is my "long lost, much slimmer and very much younger sister"! I am pretty certain you wont be, but I am flattered by the comparison! x
ReplyDeleteI'd happily have you as my big sister Debbie :D x
DeleteIt looks very pretty on you and I love the bullet, but I'm with you on the frosted thing...not my cuppa tea xo
ReplyDeleteHi fluff and fripperies! I think frost in lipsticks in a bit of a love it or hate it kind of thing. Fortunately, I think the colour makes the finish look less obvious.
Deleteoh it has quite lot of frosty shimmer! looks good on you though, but I tend to avoid frosty lipstick. :/
ReplyDeletethanks for the review btw!
xx,
Pam
Thanks Pam, I hope it's useful x
DeleteI love the gold bullet. Its very stylish. It looks good on the whole, but I hear you on the frosted shimmer front. I too tend to stay away.
ReplyDeleteFrosty lips makes me nervous, I remember the 80's ;)
Deletethat color is made for you. It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kelly!
DeleteThis looks beautiful on you! Excellent school-run FOTD. Can you tell me what you have on your cheeks please? Blush is my personal bête noir and so I must make notes when I see something that looks like a potential winner!
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you! I have a feeling that the blusher was W3LL People Universalist stick #5 which I wrote about here. I think the Hourglass Stain in Rouge would produce a similar effect and also quite easy to use.
DeleteMy fave from Julie is Scarlett. I also like Thandie. Gem Noir is a fave for me for a sheer red. Film noir made me look old. *cries*
ReplyDeleteOlivia, is Thandie similar to Nude at all? I spotted it at a bargain price but didn't know whether to go for it.
DeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Minshu :)
DeleteTry the Oona Noir, Jane! I am very fair and almost platinum blonde and Oona Noir was the first red lipstick I ever had the nerve to actually wear. It is sheer and NO frost! I really think you might like it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sherry, it sounds like I need to give it a try!
DeleteWow I can't believe how gorgeous the packaging is... not really my kind of colour but oh so glam!
ReplyDeleteNic x
Thanks Nic x
DeleteNude Noir looks great on you, but I was really surprised by the shimmer. I don't think I have seen that one swatched, though if anyone did it, Olivia did ... I will have to go back and look, as she is entirely responsible for my JH lip collection. For the sheers for the Noir line, I love Film and Oona, and I have always wanted to try Gem.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sherry that you would love Oona. It's a red just about anyone can wear who is fair and leans cool.
As for packaging ... hate it. I know I am probably the only one, and while I appreciate the retro styling, 1) it's gold (ick) and 2) it is bulky with the little blip onthe side, so it takes up too much room in the little divider I store my lipstick in.
It's good to hear that Oona gets the thumbs up! I'm pretty sure Olivia has a swatch of Nude. I spent a good while pouring over her JH posts too.
DeleteI have bit of a *thing* about the packaging. I think it looks a bit like a personal device, if you know what I'm saying. ;)
If you like sheer rose, you should take a look at Celeste. It's subtle and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI've tried one of their lip pencil and the texture is awesome!
Thanks Renata, I'm really pleased you mentioned that you like the lip pencils as I'd been toying with the idea of buying one.
