My recent week of lip posts had some really unexpected benefits for me. The response to the various colours was very interesting. In particular the
Avon Charged Cherry lipstick as the colour was very popular despite it not being a usual choice for me. I am very aware that I have a tendency to choose colours that I like rather than the best choice for my colouring. So, always keen to learn, I thought it would be a good moment to experiment a bit.
This particular colour was a recommendation from
London MakeUp Girl and
Mookie on the Bench. Punky Pink #145 is a bright fuschia pink, I believe it's quite similar to Tom Ford Pure Pink. I also think it's quite similar to MAC Girl About Town but I don't find it as neon bright (I no longer have to it to make a direct comparison unfortunately). I'm very pleased I tried this lipstick, not only for the colour but for the fact that it dispelled my personal worry that Barry M lipsticks wouldn't be any good. This is a creamy formula, it's comfortable to wear though not too slippy and drying of the lips is minimal. Like other similar colours it does stain my lips by the end of the day.
Like some of the other bold lipsticks, it has been tricky to capture the colour accurately. The bullet is a little darker and more fuschia than it looks in the daylight photo. The colour is more accurate in the photos with flash.

I'm very pleased to have bought this lipstick. It's brightening and fun to wear without me feeling out of my comfort zone. At £4.49 it's an inexpensive way to try something new.
I had to talk myself out of buying this last time I was in Superdrug (already have about 3 bright pinks!) but it is a lovely colour. I think it looks really refreshing on you, plus hot pinks bring out pale green eyes :)
ReplyDeleteCute! I do love a pink lippie to liven up the face. Such a great pick-me-up! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks gorgeous on you. I know this is a far cry from what you usually go for but I love how it looks so striking against the rest of your makeup which is all so subtle and pretty. Might not be something you reach for every day but it's definitely a winner ♥
ReplyDelete@Beauty’s Bad Habit: It’s lovely. I bought a couple that day, just to make the most of the 3 for 2 of course ;). I really liked Girl About Town but it had a tendency to look too bright on me but this is perfect.
ReplyDelete@dempss01: I’m so pleased I took the advice and got it. It’s nice to be a little playful with makeup sometimes even though I’m used to playing it safe!
@Claire: It’s lovely and I was very impressed by the texture. It’s definitely list worthy!
@All Made Up: Thank you so much. It’s nice to do something a bit different. I can see myself wearing this on the school run too, it’s not so bold that I daren’t leave the house!
Thanks for you comments,
Jane x
That's a pretty colour and lovely on your cool-toned skin. I own zero Barry M lipsticks, purely because every time I swatch one in the shop I'm repulsed by the cheap smell.
ReplyDeleteI think it *really* looks nice you, and the Barry M lipsticks are a good way to try something different without shelling out a lot of cash.
ReplyDeleteHi La! I didn't swatch anything just picked up the one to buy the other day. I usually struggle with GOSH and Barry M testers as they get mushed! I didn't pick up an smell when I wore it. In fact I just stuck it under husband's nose to check too. There's only the vaguest hint of the fatty smell that some of the cheaper lipsticks have. I'm not sure how much the vary though.
ReplyDeleteHi Grace! Thank you again for the recommendation. I'm really pleased with it. I'm actually tempted to swatch a few of the other Barry M colours. It's good preparation for the Pure Pink too ;)

What a great colour on you Jane. You're right, it's a fun statement lip without being too in your face. Might have a look at BarryM lipsticks. I usually only buy their dazzledusts. x
ReplyDeleteI think this is like the bright pink katy perry wears i meant to get this then forgot so thanks x
ReplyDeleteI always think Barry M smell a bit like the Bobbi Brown and NARS lipsticks - I think the brands that don't use masking agents have that slightly waxy smell.
ReplyDeleteI have never tried anything by Barry M but seeing how pretty it looks on you I might look out for this next time I'm in Boots. Always nice to discover something new X
ReplyDeleteHi Leanne, thank you! I’m really pleased with it and will go back to look at some more of the Barry M’s. I’m not sure if they all have the same texture but I was pleasantly surprised with how nice this feels on.
ReplyDeleteHi The Beautiful Blog! It’s definitely worth checking it out.
Hey Grace. I had a good sniff but I couldn’t pick it up but that might be my cold at work! I know what you and Laura mean about the smells. Someone I used to work with told me they hated lipstick because of the animal fat smell. I definitely pick out the waxy note in the Illamasqua lipsticks. The most nauseating cosmetic smell I’ve come across so far was the Nyx lipglosses. They smell a lot like lemon toilet cleaner to me, eww!
Hi Jennifer! You may find it too similar to Pure Pink but it’s worth a look. I looked on their website and they have some other bright pinks which I’d like to swatch. For research, of course ;)

Hi, Jane, I'm really glad that you like the lipstick and it looks great on you. I agree that it's a great value for money, very creamy and pigmented and such a great colour.
ReplyDeletex Klara
It's a great colour for your cooler colouring, lovely! x
ReplyDeleteHi Klara, thank you so much for suggesting it. I'm really pleased with it and it's good to challenge my preconceptions sometimes!
ReplyDeleteThank you Pop! Makeup, glad you like it.

Ooh me likely very much!
ReplyDeleteReally like this on you too!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd by the looks of it, I 'd say it's much better option than #146(Dolly Pink I think), which didn't do it for me and it's long gone by now!
