My (Not Quite) New Years Resolutions

I realise I'm a bit slow to consider this but, New Year or not, I've decided to make a few beauty resolutions. Following all the comments on the Shellac post, I will be embarking on a new regime which will include eschewing nail polish. I can't bring myself to promise a month, we'll just see how long I can last. I'll have to make do with testing out Luxedo on my toes! Thank you so much for all of the product suggestions by the way, I'm looking forward to trying some new things.

If I'm going to take action with my nails, it seems sensible to address my hair too. After saying that I couldn't see keratin treatments becoming part of my regular routine, I wish I could have it done again. My hair seems particularly unruly at the moment. It's not helped by the regrowth at my hairline. It's a couple of inches long all round and it's forever standing up around my forehead and parting. Not a particularly great look!

It's also due for colouring. I'm going to colour it with Nice 'n Easy foam colourant over the weekend (review to follow I'm sure) and I'm going to give some colour extending products a try. I'll admit I was quite inspired by the Hair Resolutions promotion on www.activebeauty.com. The discount on the Kérastase Masque is very tempting and I noticed they have Shu Uemura hair products at less than RRP (do you still use the Shu Replica?).

Of course, what I really need to do is go and get my hair cut but I'm dragging my heels. It definitely needs reshaping, I just can't decide whether to keep the length or not. Maybe I'll feel more inspired to do something once it's coloured. We'll see, I'm making no promises. The thought of no nail polish is bad enough!

How are you getting on with your resolutions so far? Can you spur me on with tales of your amazing willpower.

  1. I would love to take my hair in hand too Jane but fear that I will be sporting the pair of curtains til kingdom come. And one of the unforseen effects of being the comebackblogging kid is in the intervening 6 weeks or so my nails have completely been shot to pieces, so I am joining with you - hair and nails it is.

  3. Hi Jane,
I think I need to make a resolution to lose weight, bought pjamas today and they were too tight, I have just been ranting about it to my husband for over half an hour and had a hissy fit and ripped the waist band bit so I could fit into them, they look really good now I must say...
I am still using the Shu so thanks for that site mention. I ran out of my last bottle so bought some of that Aveda dry repair stuff from a store and may as well be washing my hair in lard! I do think the shu would be worth a try if you hair is unruly, I have ordered some of that ctonics stuff that Grace likes though as it did pique my interest. I'm getting my hair cut saturday, can't decide whether to go for a trim or go shorter x

  4. Willpower?? What does that mean? I might have to look that word up in the dictionary! lol I haven't put my main new years resolution into practice yet, but it's to try and keep my hair closer to it's natural colour! I always say this and it always ends up black or some random shade of red that takes forever to get rid of!! We'll see how long I can keep it up! :)

  5. Oh awesome! I can really relate to the problems with splitting nails - it's a constant issue for me at the moment. I'm constantly moisturising my hands and have avoided polishes for months. They have improved vastly, but I miss polish :(

  6. @Jan: My natural hair default is scraggy and shoulder length. It would be longer if would actually go beyond my shoulder blades! I think getting it to look sleeker is a reasonable compromise. I will eventually work up to a visit to the hairdressers. The nails are the bigger challenge as they have always been bad. Hopefully we’ll get somewhere together!

@Debbie: Well done on photos mission. The Anniversaire Gastonomique sounds interesting, fingers crossed it goes well tomorrow. Oh yes, join the gym…..I’d love to but I baulk at the cost of these things (oh yes, me of the £20+ lipsticks resents the cost of getting fit, you can tell there’s double standards in this house!).

@Replica: Yes, losing weight. I need to do that desperately but I’m afraid of making promises or mentions of it on here. I was doing well a bit before Christmas then it all went to pot when my parents visited and I’ve not been able to get back on track. I’m hoping with all the walking to nursery and school with spur me back on. I had to laugh at your pyjama story. I bet they look great with the rip!

I’ve been intrigued by the Ctonics but I don’t think I would get on with them very well. I suppose I’ll never know if I don’t try! Don’t like the sound of the Aveda. Lard on hair, ick!!

@Ms. Wedgie: LOL, do you still have many packets in your cupboard? I don’t know what you’re on about anyway, you have oodles of willpower. I know how well you stuck to your no-buy. Unlike me of course!

@dempss01: I will definitely miss polish. I have several that I wanted to try on. Particularly the Essie Smokin Hot which lasted really well pre-Christmas. Ah well, I’ll live. I really want to investigate some of the product suggestions on the other post comments. None of the things I have tried so far have worked very well.

    Thanks for your comments,
    Jane x
