Confession is good for the soul, go ahead and unburden yourself! I promise I won’t judge.
When I was around 16 years old, I had my hair dyed black (DIY), and after a few months decided I hated it, and wanted my blonde hair back.
Couldn’t think of a way to do that, and had a vague idea that bleach would make it orange, so I borrow my Dad’s clippers and cut all my hair off, on a No 1 setting, so I basically just had a very close shaved blonde head.
But at least the black hair was gone. Dad was not impressed.
Also I used to pluck my eyebrows when I was a teenager and my mum hid the tweezers, as I’d practically plucked them all away! I then tried to pull the hairs out with hair pins?! I was really determined to not have any eyebrows left.
I think I have a thing for hairs, as I love plucking hairs off my legs, I could do a whole leg, if it didn’t take so long- it’s soothing in a weird way!
I used to sit for hours on end plucking grey hairs out of my husband’s black hair, I would get my tweezers and just sit there “Pluck pluck pluck” for hours, whilst watching TV. We must have looked like a pair of monkeys!
This is not strictly beauty, but years ago I pierced my own nose and my own belly button, I simply numbed them with ice cubes- or I thought I was numbing them, I can assure you they weren’t numb at all, and pricked a needle through!
Remember piercing is a job for professionals only! |
And last confession- I am really bad at cleansing, I have so many different cleansers and makeup removers, and half the time I don’t remove my make up before bed, I see it as the biggest hassle. I know I know- I SHOULD!
There, don’t you feel better now?
Yes, much better, if slightly embarrassed.
Aunty Brown has a few more questions though; it’s true that I’m the nosy type.
When was the last time you visited the hairdresser?
I think that was around 4 months ago, but I did have a hair dresser come to my house just before Christmas.
I used to go a year or so in between haircuts, as I hated having my hair cut, still don’t like it much, I must admit. Now I try to see a hair dresser every 6-8 weeks for colour and the occasional cut.
You have a choice: bad hair or bad nails?
I would rather have bad nails, and put gloves on or something like that. Bad hair is the first thing people see, and I’d hate having an awful barnet. Trust me, until the age of 20 I’d had my fair share of AWFUL perms, colours and cuts.
What is the oldest item of make up in your collection?
Ohh- good question, let me think, I am not good at throwing things away. I have a Bourjois eyeshadow palette that I recall having before I met my husband. And I’ve been with him for a good 7/8 years now. Nice! It looks fine though, but I haven’t used it for 6 years I don’t think. I really dislike throwing makeup away, it makes me sad!
Which trend still makes you cringe?
I had a perm for years, when I was much younger,- I didn’t have the fringe permed, so I spend every morning doing the biggest cowlick you can imagine, using approx 1 can of hair spray a week.
I never used foundation when younger, but I loved powder, so I’d heavily apply powder all over my face, as my base makeup. Oh Boy! Not a good look!
I used to wear the perm with over sized heavy metal band t.shirts and baggy jeans rolled up, and heeled lace up boots.
Hello Stina? It's the 90's, can we have that look back please? What's that? Yes, yes I am wearing Davidoff Cool Water... |
Yeah I was loving the 80’s and 90’s.

Ha, ha! A marvellous confessions post there, I think it's a sign of my warped sense of right and wrong that I'm most shocked by the lack of cleansing! Thank you so much to Stina for taking part. If you would like to take a turn and unburden yourself in the Friday Confessional you can email me at modestybrown@googlemail.com. It's open to everyone: if you have something to confess, I'm happy to hear it!
Fantastic! Cannot believe the gorgeous Stina ever looked dodgy though!
