The lips have it

This week has been a week of bold lip colours for me. I received Up the Amp as part of a swap and the Revlon Colorburst in Plum that ordered arrived yesterday. Both very different lipsticks but I love them both.

I apologise in advance for the grumpy faces. It's been a bit of a hard week in the Modesty Brown household. I think that's why I've been favouring a statement lip, somehow I feel a bit braver with full game face on. Anyway, enough ramble here are the lips!

I was a little worried that I wouldn't be able to carry this off. I loved it as soon as I applied it though. It's probably a little quirky but very me!

This is quite a dark colour but the feel of these lipsticks is superb. This is the make up I wore today. With a strong lip I kept the rest of my face quite bare. I have to admit these colours transport me back to my teens and early 20's. My face has more wrinkles and I've more grey than I care to admit but that's ok, today I didn't notice!

  1. They look great on you! Have you tried the classic red from Revlon? I can imagine it would compliment your skin tone beautifully. xx

  3. @Beauty's Bad Habit. Thanks, I really like the colour and wish I'd been brave and tried it sooner.

@DesignerSpray, thanks for the lovely comment. I haven't spotted the classic red. I'll have to go and swatch it. I really like red lipsticks, I have Illamasqua Box which is a fabulous colour too.

@LipstickRules, thank you darling. As a lipstick aficionado I really appreciate your opinion. I think make up is a bit like scents. It can be so evocative.

  4. They both suit you. Plum is terrible on me, I like it but it doesn't suit me at all unless I blot it into oblivion!

  5. Both look great on you but I love Plum on you- really striking. I do the same with bright lips most days for work, it makes me feel so much more confident.

  6. I know what you mean about wearing stronger colours; can give you a bit more confidence I feel.
I like both on you; I keep hearing about these Revlon Colorsburst lipsticks, I'm going to check them out x

  7. Hi Charlie! What a shame about Plum. I have that with a few lipstick, I love the colour but it doesn't love me back. The most notable was MAC Angel and I gave up in the end.

Thanks Primp and Preen. I really enjoyed wearing both of these. I loved your Impassioned pictures the other day and it inspired me!

Hello Replica. I really can recommend having a look at the colourbursts. I ordered Plum online but I popped into Superdrug and had a look at some of the others. There were about four pinky nudes/mid toned pinks which swatched beautifully. I'm really tempted to go back and pick up some more whilst they have money off.

  8. Hi Jane,

I was wondering whether to get them in that 3 for 2 at Boots if its still on but didn't realise Superdrug had money off, do you remember how much they cost there ? x

  9. From memory they were £2 off so £5.99? I'll have to look now to see which works out the best deal.

  10. I've looked and if you can see yourself wanting three then Boots is the better deal (£4.89ea). :)

  11. I adore Up The Amp! It's one of my favourite lipsticks ever. I think it looks gorgeous on you. I'm desperate to check out the Revlon lipsticks but I'm trying not to buy any more make-up before I hit duty free next month!

  12. Hi loveaudrey, your Vex post totally inspired my make up yesterday. I wore Vex on the lid with Stars n Rockets in the crease, Caviar to line and Up the Amp on the lips. I would never thought of wearing Vex with purples but it was beautiful!

Do you have a long duty free shopping list? I can't wait to see what you get.

  13. They both work great - Up The Amp looks absolutely fantastic on you!! We're a bit too pale for plum, which sucks because it's the most wonderful colour.

  14. Wow that e/s combo sounds gorgeous!! I love Stars & Rockets but I often forget to reach for it as Parfait Amour is my fave purple.

My duty free wish list is growing by the day!! I'll be sure to show and tell when I get home!
