Unii Palette

I promised to post about this palette a little while ago. I won this particular palette through an R8Beauty sweepstake. It's possible to buy them directly from www.uniicometics.com (for orders outside of the States you need to use the Paypal or Amazon checkouts).

It was Vaguely in Vogue that first piqued my interest in these palettes. Although I own a few MAC palettes, I don't own any 'free' form magnetic palettes. Well, unless you class my home-made version (CD case with stick on magnetic strip) of which there will be no pictures! I thought it would be particularly handy for use with other pan refills, like the Kjaer Weiss eyeshadows.

I like the rather quirky card packaging it comes in. Once unfolded, you are presented with step-by-step instructions on how to depot pans from their original casing. Inside the packaging you will also find a magnetic sheet which you use to cut out magnets for any pans that need them. It has a self adhesive side which saves fiddling about with glue.

Although, I'm not using it for my MAC pans, I thought it might be of interest to show you how many MAC eyeshadows you can fit inside the Unii palette. I managed to get 14 eyeshadows in there, so just short of the 15 you can fit in the large MAC palette. I also comfortably fitted 8 MAC eyeshadows and 2 blusher pans.

I really like this palette, it's sturdy and the closure would make me feel confident using it for travel. I also like the large mirror and the nice selection of colours. They're currently on sale for $24, the normal price is $29, so they are more expensive than the large MAC palettes. I would be happy to pay the extra though for the versatility and a the overall look.

Are you a fan of these sorts of palettes? Do you like to depot everything and keep it in one place or are you like me and mostly use palettes for refills?

  1. I've been so tempted to order one of these! My Urban Decay Box of Shadows III is taking up half of my dresser! Even more tempted now, especially since I travel a lot. Hmm. Thanks for the review! x

  3. I quite like how this one looks in comparison to a z palette, it's quite funky and more sturdy looking. I have depotted some of my MAC shadows into a 9 pan palette but now I'm not so keen on depotting and I don't like the randomness of a free palette as I like having things more uniform.

  4. Hi Postcolonial Rabbit! Some of the eyeshadows I have in this are Urban Decay. It was a shamefully old and tatty palette though from back in the days when they had lipglosses in there too! I feel much happier putting this in my bag as it has quite a large clasp and the casing is robust. I really like it.

Hey BBB. I wondered about getting a Z-palette but I don't think they're as aesthetically pleasing. This is a much better home for my Kjaer Weiss!

Hi Meeta, I like this better than the Z palette too. I haven't depotted in a long time (too many accidents) but this is handy for using for refills and I intend to use it when I go away over Christmas as it will hold both blusher and e/s.

  5. I'm so tempted by this, I would just prefer it to be a bit bigger!

  6. I don't have any Unii palettes but I love how they look! I depotted all of my MAC eyeshadows and put them in my MAC palette so that I could B2M the containers, only to realize that it's not very convenient to travel with when you only want a few shades out of the whole palette :-/ In retrospect, I wish I would've kept a few of my favorites in their original packaging. I'm torn between this palette and the Z-palette, though. Thanks for a great post!

  7. @Rocaille: Do you mean like the Z palettes have a couple of size? That would be interesting. A larger sizer would be great. I was surprised how much I could get in this though.

@WWFM: I stopped depotting when I heard my local counter weren't accepting depots. So, I have a bit of a mix. I do often buy refills though as it's more cost effective. Looks wise, I do prefer this over the Z palette. I think this a little sturdier too.

  10. So glad you like it! :) The closure on them is my favourite part of the design! Definitely the 'macbook' of the palette world if you know what I mean! I hope they come to the UK really really soon!

  11. @Blushingloves: I’m really pleased it was useful. I still like my MAC palettes but I rate this and think it’s going to be very handy for travelling. I agree that having the colours closer together is useful too!

@Jadegrrrl: You’re welcome, I like it a lot and it’s so versatile. I like the fact that I can stash brushes/little liners in there too.

@Ms. Wedgie: The closure is great, sturdy without being clunky. I totally get the Mac analogy too. I’ve been using MacBooks for 8+ years ;)

  12. Yes, I 've been wanting one since forever!
Not for my MAC eyeshadows, like u said, since I 'm quite happy with the black pro palettes as they are, but I could use one for traveling!
2 blushes and 8 e/s's are more than enough to create a big variety of looks and the sturdiness is another huge plus!
Hoping to get one sometime in 2011!

  13. Hi Tina! I think they are lovely, what colour would you go for? I agree that 2 blushes and 8 e/s gives a lot of possibilities and I would feel much happier carrying this around as the case is sturdy with a good closure. Oxford Jasmine told me that there's a UK site coming soon, it'll be interesting to see what the shipping will be like compared to the States for you.

  14. This looks interesting! I find myself mostly reaching for palettes rather than single shadows so this might help... then again I don't know if the perfectionist in me would allow it.

  15. I was trying to work out what you meant then I realised you mean the different sizes and shapes? You can tell I don't have the Monica gene ;)

  16. I 'm guessing white would be a nice option, I mean, half the reason I got Sleek Bohemian was the white colour, lol!
Let's hope that the UK site is ready soon, it would make ordering a lot easier (not to mention the lower shipping cost)!
