A Week of Lips: Avon Charged Cherry

Charged Cherry in one of Avon's Ultra Colour Rich Mega Impact Lipstick. Catchy name, non? For something with words like Mega, Ultra and Impact in the name, this lipstick is surprisingly sheer. It's a strawberry pink shade rather than a true red and it has pretty blue sparkles. The texture is slippy and moisturising but the staying power is quite limited.

The lipstick bullet is quite unusual in it's shape, fortunately this doesn't have any impact on application. I have to admit that I was decidedly underwhelmed by this lipstick, you can probably tell from the full face photo! It's OK but the colour didn't wow me and it took a bit of effort to stick with it and not apply something else.

Meh!

I bought this when it was on offer but at a full price of £8 I think it's expensive for what it is. At this price point, I would recommend looking at the Revlon Colorburst lipsticks instead as they have a nicer formula and better pigmentation.

  1. The pigmentation might not be the greatest, but I think the cherry tone of it is really pretty on you, and I think suits your (gorgeous) colouring more than the more berry/plum tones.

*makes mental note to try Cherry Lush TF on you too*

  2. Thanks Grace, that is really useful to know. I was worried about whether it looked ok. It reminds me that the colours I like and what suits me, aren't always one and the same. I would have my colours "done" if it weren't for the fact that I would sit there giggling ;)

  3. I really love this on you, such a shame the formula and pigmentation aren't great because I think the colour is great on you xx

  4. Hi WBB, I think sadly for the Avon it's suffered coming after a selection of super pigmented lipstick. I was expecting it to be less sheer but the sparkles are a pretty touch.

Hi Mercee, I have a friend that wears these for work. She's a teacher and I can see that this would a nice way to wear colour without looking too dramatic. This and the pink one I got will get use but I don't think I'd buy any more.

  5. I agree, the colour looks great on you. Interesting to read as I was thinking of ordering a pink from this selection in the sale.

  7. It makes you lips look quite rose buddy but I prefer the darker shades.

  8. I think this colour looks fantastic on you :)

And I might be alone, but I quite like the fact that it is sheer; for me that would mean much more wear, than a full on raspberry / cherry coloured lipstick!

  9. This red really lights you up! This is better than the darker reds from your previous posts.

  10. @Sparklz and Shine: Thank you! Which pink were you thinking of getting? I did get a pink at the same time as this. Not the fuschia, it’s called something like Pink pop. I can swatch it for you if that’s the one you were considering. Again, it’s quite sheer.

@ketoglutarat: I’ve had a lovely time thank you and thank you so much for nominating me x

@Skin Scrubs: Thank you. I bet you’re looking forward to the Punky Pink ;)

@Cheeky Beauty: Thank you! How are you doing hun, I have missed you whilst you’ve been away? Did you have a good holiday?

I don’t think you’re alone in liking the fact that it’s sheer. I suspect this is why my friend likes them for work. Being sheer can make the darker colours more wearable. I think I was just shocked that after the words ULTRA, MEGA, IMPACT whatsit, that these were actually very sheer. For someone looking for glossy, sheer and balm like, these would be ideal.

@Joolz: Thank you Joolz. The comments have given me a lot of food for thought about my colour choices. I’ve picked up some other lipsticks that are different from my usual choices and I look forward to sharing how I get on.

Thank you so much for all of your comments,

  12. Hi Tina! I'm pleased you can see what I mean. It is a nice lipstick if you're looking for something sheer but the name (Impact, Ultra etc.) made me think it would be more bold somehow!

  13. This looks gorgeous on you much better than your RBR!

You need to find a colour like this in a formulation you like! Definitely your colour!

  14. Thank you. I'm still quite timid about it! I think my RBR Irreverence will always be my be my fall back ;). I bought a Revlon lipstick that might be a similar colour, so fingers crossed it's a winner.
