I wanted to share an email with you that I received this morning. Only the other day I was discussing with a fellow blogger the great prices that Hakuhodo offer on their brushes but it seems that things may be changing. As of 1st January 2012 Hakuhodo will be increasing their prices. I'm not sure by how much but I fear with the mention of increasing cost of materials, it could be more than just a small increase.
Here's the message I received.
'To Our Valued Customers, We regret that rapidly rising costs for raw materials necessitate our raising the price of most products, effective January 1, 2012. We have made every attempt to avoid the increase, but we refuse to compromise on quality. This is our only recourse. We think you will agree that the quality of Hakuhodo Brushes should not be sacrificed. We would like to thank you for your continued support. Best regards, Hakuhodo USA Online Shop PS.'
So, if any of you were thinking about making a purchase in the near future, I would recommend placing your order before the end of the year if you can. I'm trying to decide what to do personally, it feels a little like being between a rock and a hard place with the increase in prices and the decrease in the Customs limits for international shopping. Fingers crossed the increase isn't as bad as I fear!
Now that sucks! I wish they'd specify in their e-mail by how much the prices are going to go up. I hope there'll be some more info on that before the actual price increase. x
ReplyDeleteI do wonder whether the increases will vary depending on the brush/hair type rather than an overall percentage. There's such variety in their price range and certainly a lot of the new additions already seem to have a higher price. I suspect we won't know more about the increase until it happens. I know it's not great news for you as you'd hoped to wait till next year to place an order. x
ReplyDeleteExcuse my poor English. I've placed an order but these are brushes I've planned to buy anyway. I have many hakuhodo and actually I don't like them all. In fact I like the most the eyeliner brushes, most of the face brushes are soft but are poking especially the ototsuko goat ones. Hakuhodo worked so well because the quality was good for a reasonnable price, but if the increase is very high I'll probably turn to other brands. and by the way I always boycott brands that increase prices while they obviously sell more.
ReplyDeleteHello Anonymous. Your English is excellent and I'm really grateful for your comment. I will place an order before the end of the month. I really do hope they won't be raising prices too much, I suspect that would drive customers to look elsewhere as you say. Especially if it looks like it's to increase profits rather than to cover rising costs.
ReplyDeleteI received the same email as well. I decided to splurge on the more expensive powder and blush brushes that I knew I would purchase sooner or later. I figured that the less expensive eye brushes could wait and the price increase on these would not be as hard on the budget as the price increase on the other brushes!
ReplyDeleteHi Anon! I'd love some of the more expensive face brushes. I bet you will really enjoy them :). There was a post on Makeupalley (thanks Mookie on the Bench for pointing it out) and Hakuhodo have said the the increases will be between 5 - 70%. I imagine this means it will be 5% on the brushes that are already expensive and the greater increases I assume will be on the Basic Series. I don't look forward to seeing the changes in price in the New Year!
ReplyDeleteWow, I thought Hakuhodo was expensive already and now they're raising prices?! I shan't be trying them anytime soon :(
ReplyDeleteHi Silhouette Screams. If you have a look their prices currently start from around $12. They do have some very expensive brushes but equally at the moment they have some very reasonably priced ones too (there are several different ranges). I suspect that it'll be the reasonably priced ones where we'll see increase the most in price unfortunately.
