I bought a couple of bits from MAC yesterday. Namely the Studio Sculpt foundation that I was keen to try after the MAC trends workshop. I bought it in NC20, it does look quite dark in the arm swatch but I'm hopeful that it doesn't look that way on my face. First impressions are that it smells a little strange (it reminds of emulsion which is a little freaky for a foundation), I also feel like I will need to use something more hydrating to prime my face before applying the Studio Sculpt as my skin feels a little tight after application. I'll be keeping on a eye on longeivity and any colour change during the day.
The other item I bought was MAC Teddy Eye Kohl. This was a re-purchase as I've owned Teddy before. I gifted my old one to a friend when she took a liking to it. It's a bronzy-brown colour and compliments my eye colour well. I have a feeling it is quite similar to Rouge Bunny Rouge Lola and I will do a side by side comparison at soon. Teddy is quite a soft pencil and can be smudged easily. It also works well as an eyeshadow base and Oxford Jasmine used this particular colour as the basis for a smoky eye during my makeover last year.
The 'old' item that I'm wearing today is Rouge Bunny Rouge Solstice Halcyon. I used Londonmakeupgirl's technique of applying the eyeshadow over Teddy Eye kohl to soften the line and I really like the effect. I think you can see that Solstice Halcyon is a well loved item from the fact that it is in pieces. I like the subtle shimmer finish of this eyeshadow and I think it makes it easier to wear than either a straight matte or more frosty taupe. I've sneaked in another 'old' item here too. I've been reaching for RBR Murmurings lipstick a lot of late. It's such a great colour for the time of year and it feels really good on my wind chapped lips.
I'd love to hear about your new, old and re-purchased items if you fancy sharing.
Solstice Halcyon over a shimmery brown pencil is my 'brain dead, need to look decent' default. I DO like the look of that lipstick.
ReplyDeleteOver the last couple of days...
ReplyDeleteNew: Topshop blush in Pop, a beautiful bright coral.
Old: Jemma Kidd lip gloss in Rendezvous, a really nice cool pink.
Re-purchased: Mac Technakohl in Earthline. Hands down my favourite ever eyeliner. A great, cool brown shade with the teeniest amount of shimmer.
Nice post x
@Grace London: It's a good look to have in my arsenal. I'm frequently brain dead in the morning. I like Murmurings very much, it's got a good amount of pigment for a sheer lipstick and feels very good on.
ReplyDelete@Product Pixie: Ooh, Earthline sounds good. I love brown liner. I keep meaning to buy something from the Topshop line, I'd be interested to know if you rate the blusher.
Jane x
New, well newish: MAC Ricepaper
ReplyDeleteOld: Powersurge Kohl pencil
Repurchased: L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes
Love the look of Teddy
What a brilliant idea to put Solstice Halcyon over Teddy. I have Teddy and Zuneta.com is sending me Solstice Halcyon. I will try that the moment I get it!Your swatches are lovely-- now I'm lemming for that RBR lipstick too! I love your blog!!
ReplyDelete@Gaelle: Ooh, I like your selection of old, new and re-purchased very much! Teddy is a lovely pencil, I'd definitely recommend it.
ReplyDelete@lola seicento: Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I'd love to know how you get on when you've tried the pairing. I like Solstice Halcyon very much, I hope you like it too.
Jane x
Jane your pairing of Solstice Halcyon and Teddy was brilliant indeed- I can't get over what a gorgeous combination they make together!! I also tried Solstice Halcyon on top of MAC's Constructivist Paint Pot which was also utterly gorgeous! :-)
DeleteThank you so much for coming back lola! I was thrilled to see your comment that you loved the pairing. So simple but so great! You are tempting me to get Constructivist now. It's something I've had in my mind to buy for a long time. I bet I'll love the two together :-)
DeleteThe pairing is sublime, Jane. Brilliant eye you have for color! I love Constructivist! I have more MAC Paint Pots than any human or blogger needs, but I seem to reach for Constructivist the most these days. It plays well with so many of the RBR colors-- Abyssinian Catbird is gorgeous with it, and it even adds an extra punch to Delicate Hummingbird (a discovery I made by accident). I think that you would love having Constructivist in your stash. How much longer are you on your "no buy?" At least it is part of the permanent range-- so it will be there when your no-buy campaign ends! I'm shocked by your willpower- especially given all of the temptations you were faced with at IMATS!! You have far more willpower than I!!
DeleteI thought Teddy was discontinued. Did MAC bring it back?? I'll have to check it out. I totally agree that Solstics Halcyon is a fantastic color and probably the one RBR eyeshadow that almost every woman should own. I don't wear it every day, but whenever I bring it back out it's like seeing an old friend.
