Korres Watermelon Light Tinted Moisturiser SPF 30

Photobucket

I bought the Korres Watermelon Light Tinted Moisturiser from www.zuneta.com a few weeks ago. I've waited until now to review it as I wanted to give it fair trial. I purchased it in the lightest shade Light Sand. As you will see below this is possibly a touch too light for me at the moment as I have a bit of a tan. It's workable though as I can put a bit of colour back with bronzer and I'm sure the colour match will be better as soon as the sun disappears!

From left to right you can see my face with nothing on; with just the tinted moisturiser; with tinted moisturiser and undereye concealer. Hopefully you can see that the tinted moisturiser evens my skin tone, getting rid of redness but it's light enough that you can still see my freckles. Similarly you can still see blemishes so you will need concealer which I think is pretty much a given for any TM. I think you can also see from the final photo that my forehead is a little 'glowy' so I should probably use a little loose powder to set this but I'm terrible at remember to do this!

So, what do I think to this? Well, I won't fib. I definitely have mixed feelings about this product. On the positive side, I think it provides a nice level of coverage. It includes an SPF of 30 which is fantastic and it feels comfortable to wear considering the high SPF protection it offers. On the downside, it is very tricky to apply. I had been warned that you had to blend quickly as it sets but honestly you have to work at lightening speed. I find it best to apply immediately after moisturising. I was told that using a primer would help. I also find it preferable to apply it in stages. You certainly can't dot this all over then blend. I made the mistake of putting too much on my face once whilst in a rush and got quite a shock. I couldn't blend it in fast enough so I ended up very patchy. Once it sets it won't budge and the the coverage it gave me was more like a full coverage foundation. For a tinted moisturiser this is actually very pigmented.

Despite the negatives, once you get the hang of applying it, it is a good base and it lasts well. I shall use this up and will hopefully remember to do a final thought post once it's finished. I should also add that it hasn't caused any break outs. I've included a list of the ingredients for those of you with sensitivities.

  1. Ooh, this sounds like it could appeal to me. My usual gripe with tinted moisturisers is that they never 'set' and spend all day sliding around my face so if this one sets fast then that would suit me!

  2. Completely unrelated - but any news on the hair front yet?? or are you saving that as a surprise?!

  3. @missy ellie: There's definitely no sliding around with this one. If you work quickly it really is very good. It just takes a bit of practice. Let me know what you think if you give it a try! x

@Debbie: I posted about my hair yesterday, here's the link. I love it! x

  5. Thanks for the review!I want to try it now!Korres has amazing products but some times you need to be more careful when you blend them! And if it is like the Korres foundation then definitely try hands to blend! The only way they work for me!:)

  7. @Get Gawju: Thank you!

@Blushingloves: You’re welcome. I always apply foundation/tinted moisturiser with my hands and have never got to grips with brushes for application. Even with my hands it’s hard work blending fast enough. I think it’s because it’s oil free. Do you know if the foundations are oil free too?

@Mybutterfly63: I love the fact that it is SPF30. I really wish I’d had it at the start of the warm weather!

  8. Mmmm...well this really did not work for me. I much prefer their vitamins and ginger foundation. It only has SPF10, but it is really light (medium coverage, more akin to a tinted moisturiser actually), very easy to work with, sets and lasts very well and makes my skin feel very comfortable throughout the day (meaning around 8-9 hours).

  9. Hi Nina, thank you so much for your comment. It's great for readers to have be able to see a balance of view points. I'd be interested to know what you didn't like about it?

It's be interested to try one of their foundations. I have considered the Wild Rose one before, I'm just unsure on what shade I would need. I like the sound of the coverage of the vitamins and ginger.

Tell your neighbour I said hi and thank you ;)

  10. Thanks for posting the ingredients! That looks really good on you, although you have lovely skin to start with so don't need much help. I wonder that this would be too drying for me and perhaps a bit dark though. I might try the other one that Nina likes, although might opt for a foundation at the moment as my skin is having a freak out.

  11. First of all - as Replica says - thanks for passing on the ingredients list, very interesting!! Now I can find out whether they use mineral or chemical sun screen.
I tried to fall in love with this moisturizer so bad but it didn't work for me!! It was very patchy on my skin, not flattering at all :( Actually, I think you shouldn't use any other product as a base because it spoils the sun block. See this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Znso9EUMGVk&feature=youtu.be&a
But you're an expert on this yourself - what do you think?!

  12. Hi Jane,

Well, I had the same problem as yourself and the previous commenter: I found it it virtually unblendable and, consequently, very patchy once on. That, combined with the fact that it settled into my (admittedly problematic) pores and that I could "feel" it throughout the day, turned me off for good.
Needless to say, none of the above apply for the vitamin and ginger foundation (although the term 'foundation' might be an overstatement for that specific product).
I have never tried their rose foundation, but the only product to which I have EVER had a bad reaction (most probably an aberration) was their rose mask, so I'd personally be reluctant to try another product of the rose line.
    Have a lovely week!

  13. Hi Replica. I’m glad I could help by adding the ingredients in the review, I feel like I have been educated on the importance of this now :). I don’t feel the product dries my skin more that is sets quickly. It isn’t moisturising though and I don’t feel like I could skip moisturiser with this which you can with other tinted moisturisers. If you’re skin is a bit stressed at the moment I do wonder if something like the vitamin and ginger foundation would be a better choice texture wise. x

Hi Sam, thank you for the interesting video. I certainly can’t claim any expertise when it comes to sunscreen. I can appreciate that it may well be best to apply this directly to cleansed skin to be most effective but for this product I would not find that comfortable at all and I’m sure I would get an uneven finish. My instinct tells me that using a moisturiser wouldn’t necessarily prevent the SPF from working altogether. As I’m not a product chemist I couldn’t say if there would be any inhibition though. As I apply the TM sparingly to achieve my desired coverage (as well as over a moisturiser) again this may not to the optimum application for use as an SPF. I suppose as I’m using this primarily as a base rather than sunscreen I am ok with this. I also use a moisturiser with SPF too. I can definitely see how you could end up with a patchy finish, it really is tricky to apply it. x

Hi Nina, I wondered if the application was the problem. The occasion when I applied it liberally I did end up with product settling in my pores. I am wondering if this a factor of the SPF? I think I would like to try one of their foundations. I’ll have to get a colour match next time I’m near Liberty.

I think based on some of the feedback on this post it would be really useful for me to continue using this and then do an ‘exit interview’ once it’s finished. Thank you so much for all the comments, it’s been really interesting and thought provoking.

  14. Love the fact that it's got SP30, but I need something that gives a heavier coverage to even out my colouring.

But I think I might investigate it further, nonetheless. Your blog is going to cost me a fortune ;-)

  15. Hi Ali, it sounds like one of the other Korres foundations might be worth a try if you don't think the coverage from this would be enough. I suppose the trouble with this one is that although it has a lot of pigment it isn't buildable because it sets.

  16. Ugh, make-up's so much fun but sooo complicated at the same time. Moisturizers and SPF are the most challenging issues for me, seriously. I am required to wear proper sun block, that's why I hardly use anything else than sunscreen lotion on my face this summer :( I guess that it makes a big difference whether you use chemical or mineral sunscreen. The chemicals react with elements of your skin (that's why it takes 20 mins before exposure to sun is recommended) and transfer sun rays into warmth (or whatever...). Minerals reflect the sun light directly. So, it's ok to put mineral SPF on top of other products but chemical sunscreen "needs" the pure skin.
I have the feeling that Korres might not be all mineral but I'm not sure.
Gosh, now I'm looking for a reliable tinted moisturizer with mineral SPF that matches my skin tone. yeah, right...

  17. Sam, it is tricky I suppose if you have really specific needs. Are there any mositurisers or primers that have sufficient SPF? I'm not educated enough on the differences between mineral and chemical sun screens. I know if you contact Zuneta, they are very good on answering product queries so maybe they could help you find something suitable? I hope you have some success in your quest.

  18. Dear Jane, you are so nice!! I will try to ask Zuneta, thanks for the tip! I really need to find a solution that works for me during the summer months. I will get there :)
Looking forward to the 'exit interview', great idea!!
