Last Zuneta Guest Post

Today is the last in my series of guest posts on Zuneta. This time I'm reviewing Becca Beach Tint in Fig and the new Hourglass Film Noir mascara. If you'd like to read you can find the post here.

I also wanted to mention the gift with purchase offer for Hourglass purchases currently on Zuneta. If you buy any two Hourglass products you will a free Adorn lipstick. It's a great offer if you were thinking of buying some of the new lipsticks or trying the mascara. The Femme Rouge lipsticks look very tempting. I've been very pleased with my lipglosses and eyeshadow duo from Hourglass too.

GOSH Darling and Why I Don't Wear Nudes!

I think this post signals my final acceptance that nudes just aren't for me. I have tried hard to make it work, blotting it, wearing it with gloss, using it with other colours. In all honesty, I just don't think any make up should involve that much work! So, Darling, I'm very sorry but I just don't think it's working. No, it's not you, it's me......

Here comes the proof

Photobucket

Photobucket

As ever I have done that silly thing of taking photos of the lipsticks and the swatches the opposite way round. In the pictures of the lipstick, from left to right, we have GOSH Darling, MAC Hue and MAC Blankety. They are reversed in the swatches. As you can see from the both pictures, Darling is exceptionally pale. Hue is a pale pink and for a glaze finish I think it's fairly pigmented. Blankety is a much darker 'nude', in comparison to the other two it looks very dark. On my lips, I still think of it as a nude colour. I have to be careful with application otherwise my natural colour is visible.

Brace yourself for it. These are the colours on my lips. I will warn you now, it's not pretty!

Photobucket

Photobucket

I find that Darling and Hue really just aren't wearable for me. GOSH Darling, although it feels quite creamy on my lips, just accentuates any dryness and I find it impossible to get an even application. Hue is a little better. The coverage is better and more even than Darling but again, it has a tendency to show up flaws. Blankety is fine, though in this line up it feels hard to pass it off as a nude.

I do apologise for the face pictures, I don't think I've ever look less pleased in a photo. There is an explanation for this, as this was the only other alternative. Feel free to insert your own caption!

Rouge Bunny Rouge Abyssinian Catbird and Lacquer Liner

My latest Rouge Bunny Rouge items are here! This is only their second outing so this isn't a thorough review, just my initial thoughts. I've included swatches as well as some pictures of me wearing them together. It's very picture heavy but I that's probably a good thing in this case.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

This is Rouge Bunny Rouge Abyssinian Catbird eyeshadow. It's an amazing colour and so unique. It has touches of khaki, gold and bronze. I'd been worried that it would too warm for me as I do struggle with gold and bronze shades but it doesn't seem to lean too warm or too cool so I think most people could pull this off. This is just as buttery soft to apply as my other Rouge Bunny Rouge eyeshadows and it's very pigmented too. Just a single swipe of the pan with my 239 brush was enough to get good even coverage over my mobile lid. There was no fallout either. I am so pleased I got this eyeshadow, I've been admiring it for such a long time. I just wish I'd got it sooner.

This is the newest addition to the Rouge Bunny Rouge line. Raven Gaze Lacquer liner is a black liner with felt tip style applicator. You don't have to apply much pressure and the nib is firm (though not scratchy) so it's easy to get a precise line. Hopefully you can see from the swatches that you can adjust the thickness by either using the point or the side of the nib to draw the line. The liner dries quickly so that you don't have to worry about transfer. I like the lacquer finish, it's glossy without being too wet looking. I don't think I've worn it enough to comment on how hard wearing it is. It's not waterproof and the swatches washed off easily. I'm pleased to report though that after a trip outside in the rain I wasn't left with Alice Cooper eyes!

I'm pleased I bought this as it's useful for applying liner quickly. I really hope they bring out a dark brown version. I like the applicator but it would be really nice to have an alternative to black.

I'm wearing both Abyssinian Catbird and lacquer liner today as you can see in these photos. My eyes were primed using Too Faced Shadow Insurance and I applied MAC Brule as a base all over the lid. I applied Abyssinian Catbird all over my mobile lid and I darkened with MAC Smut on the outer V and into the crease.

Things I'm Liking Right Now

I never got round to doing my favourites from last month, so to make up for it I thought I'd do a little post about what I'm using and enjoying at the moment. I've not had as much time for playing with make up lately but I have found myself reaching for a few lipsticks to make up for the lack of colour on my eyes.

I've worn Edward Bess Night Romance lipstick a lot since I bought it. It's such a nice deep raspberry pink. Wearing this make up feel instantly more made up, even with very minimal make up. This is definitely my favourite school run lipstick at the moment.

Photobucket

Another lipstick that I've been wearing quite a lot is YSL Rouge Volupte in Spicy Pink . I wanted to sell this a while ago as I thought it was too dark for me. I'm not sure if it's the change in season or just the colours I've paired it with, but I've worn this quite a lot recently. I like the feel of the Volupte formula and find myself smacking my lips together a lot! It can be a little drying though so I can't wear it two days in a row. I'm really pleased that I kept hold of this now. I think it's going to get a lot more wear in the coming months.

Photobucket

I got the new Hourglass Film Noir mascara as part of my Zuneta products to review. I will be talking it about it fully in my next guest post but this certainly deserves a mention. I've worn it every day since I got it and I really like it. My lashes never feel brittle wearing this and it doesn't flake or smudge at all. I've never had a high end mascara before (apart from samples) and I have a terrible feeling I might be hooked!

I've always dismissed dry shampoo but I picked a travel version of the Batiste Tropical spray as I was intrigued to know what I was missing. The first time wasn't a success, I didn't put enough on as I was worried about making my hair go grey (or more grey in my case). I was more generous the next time and was much more impressed by the results. My hair felt really bouncy and fresh. I rather like the smell too even if it is a bit synthetic. It ran out this week, so I think it's time to splash out on a full size version.

My final mention is Lancome Teint Miracle foundation. I've been very pleased with this foundation, it's a touch pink on me but not enough to be a major problem. I like the texture and finish, it feels quite light on but gives me a nice coverage. I always apply foundation with my fingers and I find this foundation is really quick to apply this way which is great as I am perpetually in a rush in the mornings!

In the interests of balance, I think it's only fair to mention a few things I'm not loving!

I've really not enjoyed using my Dove Visiblecare cream shower gel. This is such a thick formula (you might find Vaguely in Vogue's rant about it quite an amusing read) that it blobs out more like cream than shower gel. It doesn't foam much and I find it dissipates much too quickly. I don't find it that moisturising either. I definitely won't be buying it again!

I had to get an SLS free formula to use after my Brazilian blow dry and I picked up some Naked Shampoo and Conditioner as they were on offer in Boots. I like the smell and sometimes my hair feels nice after I've used them. Other times, my hair lank and as if it hasn't been cleaned properly, even though I always wash twice with this shampoo. I can't decide if it's the SLS free formula that I don't get on with or the Naked products in particular. I think I need to try another SLS free to make the comparison. All suggestions would be welcomed.

Photobucket

The No.7 Smoky eyeliner. I don't feel I really need to a review on this as M. from facegoop has said it all here. Be warned, if you are of a sensitive disposition this might want to give it a miss!

I would love to know what you're loving (or hating) at the moment so do feel free to share. Any SLS free shampoo recommendations would be a bonus too.

The Friday Confessional (Part III)

It's been too long since I've had a bit of Friday fun. Whilst cooking the boys dinner earlier on I was reminded of a funny (and very embarrassing) story that I feel the need to share. For a change this is a non-beauty version and I will expect some sharing from you later!

This story comes to you from my days of student in Norwich. Back in those days I used to buy quite a lot of music (when I wasn't hiding out in Boots). One day I came home with an album. It was an unusual choice for me but when I showed my boyfriend he looked at me with sense of panic. You know that "what have you done with my girlfriend kind of face"? I'd bought the album on a bit of a whim because I'd liked one song. I put it on that evening and I listened for a bit. I sat there for a while and it finally dawned on me, I had bought......

A Shania Twain Album!!!!!

I played it for no more than 15 minutes, put it back in the case and the very next morning took it back to the shop. "The reason for the return madam?". Me "Because it's sh*t!". Knowing look, "Yes, madam. That will be a full refund then". Thank goodness they were understanding!

I'll leave you with the song that made me do it. Take it away Shania! No, no, really....take it away!

Go on, tell me an embarrassing story. You'll feel better when you've let it out. Let's see who can top my Shania shame.

Alva Sanddorn Skincare

Photobucket

I came across the Alva Skincare range when I had my makeover with Oxford Jasmine. I really liked the Lifting Cream that was applied before my make up, it felt nice on and it made a great base for applying foundation. I was very kindly sent a few items from Alva to try. In this review I'm going to talk about the Cleansing Milk and Lifting cream from the Sanddorn Anti-Ageing range.

Alva Skincare is natural and organic and also cruelty free. You can see more product information on their website. The Sanddorn skincare is their anti-ageing range and contain organic sea buckthorn. Amongst other things, the oil from sea buckthorn contains provitamin A and vitamin E as well as having an intrinsic SPF of 4. If you've ever read Beauty Mouth's dissection of which ingredients are genuinely anti-ageing you'll see these are up there. The buckthorn oil is blended with other ingredients for maximum effect.

All of the photos are clickable so you can enlarge to see the writing.

I have been using the cleansing milk for just over two weeks now. I use it to remove my make up at night. My method of choice for cleanser is to squirt a bit on my fingers, massage in to my face and then remove using a damp muslin cloth. The first time I used it I didn't immediately apply moisturiser and was amazed at how smooth and soft my skin felt. Even the man-friend was impressed which is no small feat. I realise this can be used to remove eye make up as well but I always use a separate eye make up remover (some habits die hard) so I can't comment on how well this works. However, for the rest of my face, I find this removes make up well and I don't feel the need to double cleanse. It leaves my skin soft and there is no greasy residue. The cleanser isn't scented but you get a faint smell of what I assume is the sea buckthorn and other ingredients. It's not unpleasant but if you're used to a scented cleanser this may be a little different.

Photobucket

Photobucket

The lifting cream has the same apricot colour as the cleansing milk. I quite like creams this colour as I think they can pep the skin up a bit. My skin definitely looks better when I apply this, which is probably due to the lifting effect too. As I mentioned, I find the cream provides a good base for make up. I have been using this morning and night and didn't feel the need to swap to a more rich cream at night. It's tricky to gauge the impact on my lines as I'd found the Nuxe cream had left my skin in really good shape, so I wasn't expecation to see any further reduction. My fine lines and frown lines are still feeling plumped out and my forehead feels nice and smooth so I've found it's been very good at maintaining the previous good work.

I have really enjoyed using both of these products and will continue to use until they are empty. I can definitely see me re-purchasing the cleansing milk too as this has been a real hit for me.

RMK Super Basic Liquid Concealer

I've been meaning to write this review for a while. I was reminded to do it when I used Benefit Erase Paste this morning on my undereyes. I have become rather attached to this concealer as it happens. It's not perfect and we're certainly not talking holy grail territory but I use it a lot and it definitely deserves a mention.

Photobucket

Super Basic Liquid Concealer comes as a Touche Eclat style pen. That is where the comparison ends. This is a very opaque concealer and although the SA warned me not to use it on blemishes as it is a highlighter, I've used it in that way when I've been in a rush and find it works fine. I don't really see this as a highlighter at all, as far as I can see there is no iridescence or light reflection. It's certainly quite pigmented. You can click on the image above to enlarge the photos.

The aspect of this product that I really like is that it's quite a dry formula. It sets (without feeling drying for me) and doesn't move around and crease unlike my MAC Select Moisturecover. It last well too.

What I don't like is that it's quite yellow toned. I don't always notice this but sometimes when I've applied it I do feel the colour looks wrong. I prefer a peachy colour to correct my dark circles. My preference for it's consistency and staying power wins over the issue of the colour though.

Here's what you've all been waiting for, the before and after shots:

Photobucket

Photobucket

Hopefully you can see that it really does take the edge off my dark circles. The colouring is a little different in the before and after photos but this is due to lighting and I suspect I have added foundation in the after photo as well. It definitely reduces the redness at the inner and outer corners of my eyes, as well as lifting the area generally.

I really do like this concealer and I reach for it almost everyday in preference to my Moisturecover and Erase Paste. I will no doubt finish it off. I'm not sure I'll re-purchase immediately as I have a couple of other concealers I'd like to try but I can see my buying this again in the future.

The Super Basic Liquid concealer costs £19. I bought mine from Selfridges but you can also buy RMK cosmetics from ASOS. It's definitely a brand I'd like to investigate more. I was really pleased with the cleanser and liquid soap samples I tried too.

Neutrals on a budget

I did this particular eye look whilst I was trying the Sleek palettes for my guest review. I did struggle a bit with when I first got these palettes but I'm quite happy with how this turned out. The eyeshadows aren't as easy to blend and don't last as long as some my favourite brands but they are relatively inexpensive. As you can probably see, this isn't that dissimilar to some of the looks I did with the Rue de Passy palette.

Illamasqua Art of Darkness Collection

Photobucket

The Art of Darkness collection is here! I've been really looking forward to this release after seeing snippets of information over the past few weeks.  The visuals feature 13 different fantastical creatures created by Alex Box, including the Dark Angel and Wanton Woman which are my particular favourites!

The collection itself is full of amazing jewel colours. There are three new liquid metals: Stoic, a metallic emerald; Resolute, a metallic ruby and Superior, a metallic sapphire. There is also a new liquid metals palette that includes all three of the new colours as well as the old favourite, Solstice.

Of the two new pigments, I have seriously fallen for Alluvium, a beautiful iridescent blue. I've seen several swatches and it looks amazing. I'm also very taken by the nail polishes too. Scarab is a deep metallic ruby as worn by the Queen of Gypsies character. Viridian is a stunning peacock green and I can see this being extremely popular. You can see the full collection here.

MizzWorthy is currently hosting a fabulous contest where winners will receive the entire Art of Darkness collection as well as a place on MUSE's "Catwalk Trends Makeup Bootcamp". If you're inspired to try your hand at creating a 14th character, pop along to MizzWorthy's blog to see details on how to enter!

Will you be you getting anything from this collection?

SpaceNK Iconic Products

I received a mail out from SpaceNK the other day that I found quite interesting. A number of the brands and the faces behind them are featuring in the October issue of Vogue. Many of these are brands which I've heard lots about but never actually tried and the list of iconic products includes lots of items that I have wanted to try for some time.

Iconic products I'd love to try.....

Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm
I've heard great things about this cleanser. It's similar in style to Eve Lom but as @KennethSoh and Beauty Mouth rate it, I know it must be worth a look! I intend to buy the starter pack that SpaceNK sells when I need a new cleanser.

Sarah Chapman Overnight Facial
Again, I've Sarah Chapman skin care mentioned a lot on blogs and on twitter and I'd really like to try it out for myself. The idea of making my skin facial fresh whilst I sleep is definitely a selling point for me. It range has a fairly high price point but with good results I don't mind spending a bit more.

Lipstick Queen
The Iconic product in this case was actually the Medieval lipstick but I'm rather keen to try either a Saint or Sinner lipstick. I'm not sure on shade, probably nothing too radical but you never know, occasionally I have been known to go a little more statement!

Not lusting.....

By Terry Baume de Rose
I know this probably has quite a cult following and I know it's a firm favourite with Lollipop26 but I just don't feel tempted go spendy on a lip balm. I am however quite tempted by the tinted Lanolips tubes that are coming to the UK very soon.

Not on the list but lemming.....

Chantecaille Tigers in the Wild Palette
Chantecaille doesn't make it on the list purely because it's not a SpaceNK exclusive. I first fell for this when Replica at Visionary Beauty pointed me in the direction of some pictures. She's has some dastardly ways that one, I tell you! This beauty will set you back £73 and contains three eyeshadows and one blush shade. I think it's a leap too far for me but it won't stop me lusting! What I do like about this collection is that it aims to raise awareness about the plight of the wild tiger and Chantecaille is supporting TRAFFIC, a an international wildlife trade monitoring organisation to help save the remaining tigers in the wild. What do you mean you can hear me justifying from over there?........

Looking forward to....
The reward card! SpaceNK recently announced that they will start a loyalty scheme for customers. The programme is called N.dulge and you will be able to collect points and get rewards as well as exclusive invitations to events and birthday treats. I've already signed up as it sounds great!

So, tell me what are your favourite products from SpaceNK? What have I missed from my list!

Guest Post: MUFE Aqua Creams

Today we have another guest post from Katie at My Lips But Better. I've loved chatting with Katie and I find her reviews so helpful. I'm really pleased she agreed to do these Make Up Forever posts. So, without further a do take it away MLBB!

They say...
Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream is an ultra-pigmented, long-lasting waterproof cream. Combines the highest-quality pigments with mother of pearl particles to give immediate rich color payoff with a luminous finish in just one application. Long-lasting formulation will not crease or smudge under the most extreme conditions and the creamy and elastic texture allows for easy blending.

I say...
Ever since MAC discontinued some Paint Pots, I've been on the hunt for a good cream shadow. I was very impressed by MUFE's claims of all day staying power and taken aback by the level of pigment in

So I went off to Sephora and bought #2, a shimmering silver taupe. The closest thing in my collection is Benefit Skinny Jeans, which by comparison has less shimmer and is warmer.

Photobucket

I tested #2 during the last few weeks of summer heat here and am pleased to say that they do not budge! Without primer, the shadow looked fresh for 10 hours. Even after the 10 hour mark, there was plenty of color and shimmer to be seen, but it wasn't as intense as when I first applied.

The texture is smooth and slick; it felt less creamy and dense than Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows (which don't last as long without a primer). My Aqua Cream was quite shimmery, but shades 5-10 are shimmer-free. Aqua Creams aren't just eyeshadows either! All shades are safe for eyes and cheeks, and shades 5-10 are also lip-safe.

Photobucket

I recommend applying these with a finger if you can, so if you're a makeup artist or just funny about germs, consider scooping out some product with a cotton bud and then applying with fingers. The heat from your hand melts the product so it applies smoothly and evenly.

My only suggestion for Aqua Creams would be to add some muted colors. I understand that MUFE has traditionally been a professional brand, but since they've moved into Sephora I hope they will embrace the mass market. And that's hardly a criticism... I'm merely asking for more!

You can purchase MUFE Aqua Creams at Sephora in the US ($22 for .21 oz) or www.makeup-provisions.com in the UK (£15.50 for 6 g).

Bottom Line
Aqua Creams have impressive staying power and great color payoff. If you see a shade you like, get it!

Thank you Katie for another excellent review! If you fancy trying MUFE HD foundation, don't forget about the discount for readers which is available till the end of this month. You can get a 15% discount on MUFE HD Foundation through Makeup Artist Provisions online store. The offer is available for the first 100 to quote MODESTY online before 30th of September.

Guesting on Zuneta

Today I am guesting over at Zuneta for the first time. I would love it if you came along and had a read. I'm chatting about my small Edward Bess collection for this first post, there is of course plenty of pictures of my smacker for you to enjoy! You can find my post here.

e.l.f. Rosy Raisin lipstick

Oxford Jasmine was kind enough to send me this lipstick to try after my makeover. It's definitely my sort of colour, more on that in a moment. The pictures of the lipstick bullet make it appear a bit darker than it is. It's actually a rosy nude colour with a light amount of shimmer running through it. In the bullet it also looks a little mauve toned.

Photobucket

Photobucket

On my lips it wears as a my lips but better kind of shade. Maybe a little more peachy looking than my own natural colour. It's quite sheer but will layer up for more colour and it has a nice moisturising feel.

Photobucket

This picture gives you a better idea of how it looks against the rest of my colouring. When I saw this picture, I thought, hmmm...this looks a little familiar! As it turns out it is rather a good dupe to my most favourite lipstick Irreverence by Rouge Bunny Rouge. I took some pictures to show you the similarity.

Photobucket

In the swatch picture, Irreverence is on the left and Rosy Raisin on the right. In the pictures of the lipsticks the order is reversed (sorry about that!). I think in the bullet Rosy Raisin looks a touch darker whereas in the swatch it's Irreverence that looks a little darker. I would say that Irreverence is definitely more opaque and creamy, it's also a satin finish compared to Rosy Raisin which has a light shimmer.

Photobucket

On my lips there's not much difference. Irreverence is on the left and Rosy Raisin is on the right. I do think they're very similar, though Irreverence is a bit more luxurious in feel as you'd probably expect. There's quite a difference in price, the Rouge Bunny Rouge lipsticks retail at £22 whereas as the e.l.f. mineral lipsticks are priced £3.50. It's certainly a great alternative if you're on a budget or want to experiment with different colours.

Have you tried any of the e.l.f. lipsticks? Do you have any shade recommendations?

Guest Post: Make Up For Ever Artist Intense lipsticks

I was really excited when Katie from the excellent My Lips But Better contacted me about swapping some guest posts. I thought I'd make the most of the opportunity and asked Katie if she wouldn't mind reviewing some Make Up For Ever products for me. I have been toying with making a purchase from this brand for a long time but find it awkward as it's relatively hard to get hold of UK and mostly purchasing is done blind. I always find it really useful to browse swatches and reviews in these circumstances. So, take it away Katie!

THEY SAY…

Rouge Artist Intense is a highly pigmented, long-lasting lipstick that delivers rich color in one stroke. Formulated with 50% more pigment than the traditional lipstick, Rouge Artist Intense gives an immediate true-to-color result. A blend of three natural waxes, the creamy texture glides on effortlessly for a long-lasting hold. The extensive color and texture range provides unlimited creativity.

I SAY…

They aren’t kidding about the pigment! I wouldn’t doubt that all of these swatches were done with one stroke of color, and to be honest that’s pretty amazing.

Photobucket

I’m also impressed by the staying power of Rouge Artist Intense. On my lips they last a good 4-5 hours, and would probably last longer if I didn’t eat lunch in the middle of the day (that pesky eating thing is always getting in the way…) The color lasts through a drink (or three), so you can count on these if you’re going somewhere for cocktails.

The key to the lasting power is the satin formula, which I would describe as semi-matte. I can’t comment on the matte or pearly formulas because I only own #30 (mauvey nude) and #35 (raspberry), which are satin finish shades. In my collection, the next closest formula is Revlon Matte (the MUFE lipsticks have a hint more sheen).

Photobucket

Photobucket

I find that the formula feels great right after applying but can suck the moisture out of my lips after a few hours. That’s the tradeoff with lipsticks – you either get moisture or lasting power. Some people try to combat this by applying balm underneath the lipstick. In my experience this prevents the lipstick from bonding properly to your lips, so I don’t recommend it. Instead, try applying balm or gloss on top.

Rouge Artist Intense lipsticks are supposed to smell like roses, but I find that the scent is strikingly similar to Chanel lipsticks. The packaging is sleek and functional with a cap that clicks tightly into place. The labels on the bottom are even color-coded for easy location! My one beef is that the shiny metal shows every imaginable fingerprint. Less neurotic people probably wouldn’t be bothered by this.

You can purchase MUFE products from Sephora in the USA or www.makeup-provisions.com and www.gurumakeupemporium.com in the UK.

Thanks Katie for the excellent review. I've been in touch with the lovely people at Makeup Artists Provisions and I have great news! As my readers you can get a 15% discount on MUFE HD Foundation through Makeup Artist Provisions online store. The offer is available for the first 100 to quote MODESTY online before 30th of Sept. This is excellent news if like me you've never got round to trying this cult favourite.
