Illamasqua Bacterium Nail Varnish

Illamasqua Bacterium nail varnish was released with the Toxic Nature collection earlier this year. I think it was actually my favourite item from this particular collection. The colour is a joy to wear as it changes a lot according to the light. It's a pearlescent beige taupe, the colour change is a lot like that of a beetle shell. There are definite flashes of green in there. It actually reminds me a lot of the lighter colour from the NARS Dogon eyeshadow duo

This is two coats followed by BECCA top coat. Unfortunately, it must not have been completely dry before I went to bed as there are imprints which spoil the finish somewhat! The polish went on easily. I had to be careful to wipe the brush off before applying though, as if the brush was overloaded, I found the polish could go on a little streaky. I found the brush easy to use but I do wish the handle was a little bigger.

As ever, I cannot offer any comments on the wear. I believe Illamasqua polishes are generally pretty good in terms of wear time. I have nothing similar in my collection to compare this colour to but I spotted a very interesting comparisons of Bacterium to Chanel Quartz from the Illusions d'Ombre de Chanel on The Swatchaholic. They're not dupes but they're quite similar when applied. This is certainly a useful comparison for anyone pondering the Chanel Autumn collection.

  1. I think this might be my favourite ever polish. I get so many compliments when I wear it, it goes with everything and looks very polished.

    I should have bought lots to stockpile!!

  2. This is gorgeous! It reminds me of my fave Chanel polish, Trapeze which was LE a while back. I thought the other day that Quartz looked like a slightly darker version of it so I guess there's a similarity between the 3 of them.

    Dreading those Chanel polishes being released, I want them all!

  5. Ooooh..lovely :) such a nice color!

  6. I get amazing wear from Illamasqua polishes. They last beautifully. I've been lusting after this color and now I'm seriously thinking about getting it.

  7. Love this shade! I guess it's all about pearly colours at the moment for all the brands!

  8. As soon as I spotted that I wondered about a dupe to Chanel's Quartz, they do look awfully similar good eye, Jane!

  9. You have reminded me that I was meant to order this when I got the skin base foundation, I knew there was something else I needed to get! Oh well, it looks really nice. I had been wondering if it was like the Chanel one so thanks for posting that link, off to have a read x

  10. If Illamasqua nail polishes ever make their way into Toronto I'll be a gonner... right now I'm safe because I'm too cheap to pay shipping and duty taxes :) love this shade and the name.

  11. @Product Pixie: I'm pleased to hear you're another fan!

    @loveaudrey: The Chanel Autumn collection is definitely calling to me, my purse is already quaking!

    @Ki: That's a perfect description!

    @Makeup Magpie: You're welcome. I do wish I hadn't managed to get an imprint on it though!

    @LittleMissSparkles: It's a really interesting colour, isn't it?

    @MarciaF: I'd love to know what you make of it. I really wish I could get a manicure to last, I'm definitely rough on my hands!

    @The Beauty Feelosophy: There do seem to be quite a few pearly finishes about.

    @HDTM: I'm glad the link was useful. I thought the comparison was really interesting so I really wanted to share.

    @Replica: Oh no! I think you'd really like this colour. I'm looking forward to the Chanel polishes coming out. Let's hope they don't sell out before I get a look in!

    @Lucy: Ugh, duty taxes are such a pain! At least they're saving you from a spend out!

    Jane x
