Rue de Rivoli Eye Looks

I have been trying to capture a good eye look using my Rue de Rivoli palette for some time. I've reached the conclusion that I am never going to get anything that I feel is satisfactory, so I may as well show you what I have so you can see for yourself the problem I've been having.

This is the look I did today. I used the peachy/pink colour all over the mobile lid, the light brown in the crease and outer corner, the grey to line and the white to highlight. As I am sure you will agree, it's lacking something. The liner doesn't really show up and the crease colour isn't dark enough. I think that it looks more washed out in the pictures than it did in reality but I was still a bit meh about it.

In my previous effort, I attempted to use the fuchsia. I applied it over the champagne, as had been recommended in the comments of Replica's post here. It does give more depth but the overall look is just too pink and seemed a little unbalanced.

As I mentioned in my original post, I think the colours in this palette are lovely but I definitely need to admit defeat and stop trying to create a look with it on it's own. I think it needs more contrast; a darker colour in the crease or heavier eyeliner. Something to really make these gorgeous colours shine.

Let me know what you think. What would you do to make this work?

  1. The colours look very pretty indeed (especially in the last photo) but yes, a darker colour would set them off beautifully!

  2. you are the queen of classy wearable. the look on the last photo is just simply perfect. First one was a bit, well, flat I thought. This look is so calming and delicate, even your eyebrows are perfect. you gorgeous girl x Only thing i would add is a serious curl to those interminablly long lashes of yours. xx

  3. Seeing your full face pic the eyes, in context with the rest of your makeup look natural and overall the look is very pretty. I see what you mean about there not being a huge contrast between light and dark though. Maybe applying a little pink on outer corner then apply grey over it may help to get a bit more depth without it being too pink, rather then all over the champagne (although I think this looks quite nice too).

  4. @dempss: I think stronger liner and crease would definitely make me feel happier. I'm sure you know why there's no proper full face picture here ;)

@liloo: Ah, thank you! You know, I never consider my lashes to be long. I do really need to invest in an eyelash curler. I'm rather embarrassed to admit that I still don't own any!

@Meeta: Thank you. I realised that I didn't explain the placement properly for the second look though I did as you described. The fuchsia was in the crease and outer corner (rather than all over the lid) and I used the grey to darken it up. The colours I chose for cheek and lips didn't help with the pink effect. I think I do need to be even more precise about placement though of the fuchsia as it's very easy for it to dominate.

  5. I use the liner wet and it looks great with much more depth of color! I haven't tried any of the other colors wet though...

  6. I think it is the usual MB classy eye which we all love, the only change I would have made to either is to have used one of the darker colours as a tightliner on top and bottom lashes to add some emphasis - I think the grey crease colour in top photo is lovely on you.

  7. Thanks for the tip Bina, I think I need to try the grey wet. It just doesn't show up on the top photo even though I spent ages applying it as liner! I do love the colour and want to make the most of it.

Hi Debbie! I rarely apply liner on my lower lashes as I think it makes my eyes look funny. I'll have to post about that sometime! The disappointing thing is that I used the dark grey to line the upper lashes (top photo) and it just doesn't show up. I'm going to try Bina's tip of using it wet or maybe use one of those eye sealer thingies to make the grey more dramatic. With such pale colours, I agree that more definite liner would look better.

  8. I like your looks, I wore this palette today, think pretty much same as you, used the mauve on lid and just above the crease, patted on iridescent pink/peach on main lid, brown colour in the crease applied quite heavy, white under outer browbone and charcoal/grey liner used wet, quite a thick line. I do like this palette, I'm just still working it out! x

  9. Hi Replica. I bet it looked great with a thick line, I really need to try it wet. It really is such a lovely colour that it warrants showing off!
