Hair Products: One Love and One......Puzzlement!

I went to an event a couple of weeks ago to learn a bit more about what's new from VO5 and TRESemmé. I'm pretty erratic in my use of styling products so I immediately got busy with my bag of products to try, some with great success and others left me feeling like a bit of an old fuddy duddy!

I instantly fell in love with the VO5 Miracle Concentrate. It's the same principle as Moroccanoil containing Argan oil to condition and repair dry or damaged hair but at a fraction of the cost. Most importantly for me, it doesn't have the same strong scent as Moraccanoil. You apply to damp hair and blow dry as normal. It makes my hair feel so soft and silky. Combined with the Kebelo System treatment I had, this leaves me with lovely swishy hair. You can also use it on dry hair like a serum to tame frizz. It's nice used like that too as all of the product transfers to the hair and doesn't leave a slick on your hands like serums tend to. It's excellent and at under £5, I'd highly recommend giving it a try.

Next comes the fuddy duddy moment. I was rather fascinated by the TRESemmé Sky High Plumping Powder. My hair can tend to get a bit flat at the back and I thought it would be interesting to see if this would give me a bid more body. Well, the answer is a resounding yes but I just cannot get to grips with the texture. It comes as a powder which you sprinkle on the hair, I expected it would make my hair feel dry but instead it felt like I'd back-combed my hair and sprayed it with liquid candyfloss. My hair felt really 'dirty' and I wanted to itch at my scalp all the time. I know this product would be wonderful for an up do as it instantly creates 'grippy' hair  with volume but I couldn't get on with this as a everyday styling product. I think I'm at least 15 years too old to really appreciate it. If you're rocking a Russell Brand style bouff, you're going to love this.

Bottom line: Miracle Concentrate is a huge thumbs up but I'm just too long in the tooth for Plumping Powder!

Disclosure: These products were received as part of an event pack. I will be buying and forcing all of my friends to try the Miracle Concentrate.

  1. I got the VO5 concentrate the other day, I really like it too! I haven't blow dried after using it as I'm really trying to calm my hair down before it gets highlighted next week but I have never had hair so soft! Not greasy just soft and condition, it gets a thumbs up from me too! Have you noticed it actually reducing drying time?

  2. Thanks for the reviews. I will have to look for that VO5 product (back in the day I used the *hairdressing and the hot oil* omg!!!)
I use WEN on my hair (and am very pleased- love it) but last month had more highlights added and my ends were very frizzy. I had a sample of Kenzo Bamboo oil serum stuff- I tried it and I like it a lot. I actually ordered a full size - I only use a drop on damp hair and it really helps with the frizz. It's easy to overdue though. Review coming. xx jeanie

  3. I like the sound of the VO5 Miracle Concentrate, does it have a lot of silicones in it? I'm in a sad "what happened" hair place at the moment, as I got my hair cut at the weekend and its somewhat radical, its never been so short! :( x

  4. I have to try these. I'm not sure if they sell the VO5 in Oz, but I shall investigate! I can't handle any of that volumising powder stuff either, even though I have the flattest hair in the world. It feels like I have builder's plaster on my scalp!

  5. @JadeyLou: It does feel lovely and yes, I do think it seems to reduce drying time a bit which is great.

@Jeanie: I’ll be really interested to hear your thoughts on the Kenzo Bamboo oil. It’s funny you mention Kenzo. I find that Moroccanoil smells very much like Kenzo Flowers. It used to be my signature scent but pregnancy spoiled it for me! Is the Bamboo oil scented at all?

@Replica: How is your hair doing now? It’s horrible being in a sad hair place, my hair is still not fully recovered from the butchering. I can’t seem to bring myself to cut it off and start again though! Yes, the VO5 has a couple of silicones in it which figures. Let me know if you’d like to know the ingredients.

@dempss: I’d be interested to know if you do get VO5, I’d imagine so but it might be one of those that goes by a different name if you know what I mean. Yes, builder’s plaster sounds like a pretty fair description of hair powder. It’s definitely not for me. Unless I have occasion to want to dress up as Patsy from Ab Fab!!

  6. Hi Jane,
If I take the time to blow dry it and style it then the hair looks fine, but I don't have the time during the week and I wash my hair everyday so it just looks a bit all over the place really, lets just say I will be growing it out! Don't worry about the ingredients as I can probably check it out in store, thanks for the offer though xx
