'Penelope' Kaleidoscope Eye Kit was released as part of
Le Métier de Beauté's Summer 2011 Collection. As is often the case with the Le Métier Kaleidoscopes, the combination of colours is a little unexpected. The inspiration for the shades was the sun setting across the Mediterranean, at the point when the sun descends to meet the sea and casts a glow across the sand. Knowing this, suddenly the combination makes more sense.

The colours in the Kit are Blonde Amber - a golden sand with lots of gold sparkle, Pale Satin Amethyst - a pale, blue based purple with blue microshimmer, Bronze Topaz - a metallic pink-hued bronze and Black Emerald - a deep blackened green with very refined microshimmer. All of the colours are beautifully pigmented and smooth to apply. The standout for me in terms of texture is Bronze Topaz which glides over the skin like butter.
The colours can be applied individually or layered using the signature Couches de Couleur technique. I was more nervous of applying this in layers than I was with
Le Cirque. You look at the gold and amethyst and wonder how it will work but it really does. I tend to apply the purple towards the inner corner of the eye as it has a really brightening effect. Today, I am wearing the Black Emerald along the lashline with Bronze Topaz and Blonde Amber applied above in a graduated fashion and I love how that looks too. I have some pictures of the colours applied which I will share later in the week.

Le Métier is not currently available in Europe but I have been assured that they will be back very soon. I suspect it will be online only to start with but that's good enough for me! In America, Le Métier de Beauté is available from
Neiman Marcus,
Nordstrom and
Bergdorf Goodman. Nordstrom does International shipping but be aware that you're likely to get a hefty customs charge as it comes in to the UK. The alternative is to find a lovely American friend to help you out.
Disclosure: This palette was a very kind PR sample. I have a feeling it's because I spend so much time nattering on about them coming back. Don't worry, I will keep on fighting the good fight until they give in and return ;)
Pretty! I'm not sure we have Le Metier de Beaute in Australia, but I'd love to have a play with those kaleidoscopes.
ReplyDeleteIt is a bit of an unusual combo but I like the way LMdB mix it up. Fingers crossed on their return!
ReplyDeleteI don't think the combination of colours here are for me really but individually they are gorgeous. That lilac is really pretty indeed. I just don't think I'd know how to use that palette. You must get it yourself, sometimes a palette speaks to you and you know immediately what you'd do with it and how you'd wear it.
ReplyDeleteI want them to come back too though as there are a few things I'd like but am STILL upset about Splendid Frost. haha! I don't think I'll ever get over it!
I'm so pleased for you that you have that as I think it will look beautiful on you, I am of course also intensely jealous ;)
ReplyDeleteI'll look forward to your photos of it applied. I do really hope they come back to the UK soon as there is so much more I "need" to buy from them x
Isn't the couche de couleur effect amazing with this kaleidoscope? I find it amazing how all these unrelateable colors really do go well together. So glad you got to experience 'Penelope'.
ReplyDeleteLove the unusual combination of shades here. Pretty creative!

This is gorgeous and I can't wait to see an eotd! Pretty, please xx
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous that you have this! I have the Flawless Face Kit and love it, but this is the next natural step ;)
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see this kaleidoscope I come that much closer to wanting it. The bronze color is the one calling loudest to me. Great post.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, can't wait for mine to arrive. You won't actually get hit by customs charges from Nordstrom I think in the UK as it is included in the shipping, which is colossal, but at least you aren't suddenly surprised, you know how much it will be when you check out. Last time I checked I think they wanted about £25 shipping (inc customs) for one £65 Kaleidoscope. They must come back to the UK!!! x
ReplyDelete@Jen W: I think Le Metier is pretty much restricted to the USA at the moment. It looks like there are some locations in Hong Kong but I know for now they’re no longer in Paris and London. I’m hopeful that when they sell online it will be with e-comm sites that ship worldwide. It’s a lovely brand and well worth investigating if you have a friend in the States that’s willing to do swaps.
ReplyDelete@Meeta: Absolutely, I really hope it’s soon as I think there’s definitely a demand.
@Charlie: I want them back too and won’t give up nattering! Splendid Frost was beautiful and I remember how disappointed you were. I know exactly what you mean about colours talking to you. This is a daring combination for a neutrals girl like me but I like how it works together.
@Replica: I was so excited when the package arrived and I know how lucky I am. I will have to get the pictures of it applied it very soon. I wish you were close by so I could have you round to play. I know that you would apply this in a much more skilled way than I do! By the way, I finally got my hands on Echo today in a swap with Hopelessly Devoted to Makeup. It’s made my day!
@Hopelessly Devoted To Makeup: They blend together to create something totally unexpected. I love the way the LMdB kaleidoscopes push me to try new colour combinations. By the way, Echo is here! I hope your package arrives very soon.
@Shifa: I think LMdB really excel with the unexpected colour combinations. I must get on and post the eye looks I’ve done.
@Jeanie: I promise to post them very soon. I love how these colour work together!
@dempss: I keep looking at the Flawless Face Kit and it’s something I’d like to try when they return.
@Zuzu’s Petals: I think you would love the pinky bronze. It’s my favourite of the bunch and I know we seem to favour the same sort of eyeshadow colours.
@Jennifer: Ah right. Thanks for letting me know. I was sure that Replica had said she’d ordered from Nordstrom before and got a customs fine but I’ve got past browsing myself! I think £25 for shipping would make me cry! I look forward to hearing what you think of Penelope.
Thanks for your comments,
Jane x
Hello Jane,
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't apply it any better than you, I really like how you apply your makeup. I'm so glad you got Echo, I bet you'll end up using that one a lot. I wish I lived nearer you as I'd probably be able to bring you over a box full of makeup every month as I don't like keeping the stuff I don't love and no one near me is that into makeup!
I've not ordered from Nordstrom before, I did order from Edward Bess direct and paid $25 shipping if thats what you are thinking of, although you are making me think I am going to need to order from Nordstrom to get my hands on that palette! x
Hi Replica! I'm really pleased with Echo and have been wearing it today. I need to do a comparison to the colour in the Turtles palette. I suspect it's similar but the difference is in the finish.
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely the EB I was thinking of, I seem to have had it in my head that it was from Nordstrom. I mentioned this in my other comment but maybe a CP or a swap with one of the US girls is a possibility? I do think you need Penelope in your life!!
xx
How gorgeous is that Bronze Topaz color?
ReplyDeleteThey should make a single out of it if they haven't already!!!
x
I'm not sure that they have it as a single colour. I agree that it is stunning and I have worn it a couple of times on it's own x
