Perilously Pale Confesses!

Oh my goodness, Blogger what have you been playing at? I've been desperate to post this all day! Anyway, without further ado, I give you the fabulously named Perilously Pale. Be warned, Aunty Brown has leaned how to use Photoshop....

Confession is good for the soul, go ahead and unburden yourself! I promise I won’t judge.

I’m a closet makeup addict! There! I said it. No one in my “real” life knows the extent of my obsession or that I even have a blog. My husband has been getting increasingly frustrated with the whole “makeup thing” and always being on “makeup sites”. He knows that I’ve accumulated a lot in a reasonable short period of time (less than two years) but in all reality he has no idea just how much or how expensive what I love to collect is (I’ve become a bit of a high end connoisseur). I have always been in love with makeup and have rarely ever left the house without a full face, but this full blown obsession with makeup (and $$$ makeup at that) is fairly new. I would be embarrassed to actually show anyone my collection. Not that I have a huge stash, I’m very particular about what I buy and keep and always make sure I use everything I own, but it’s still quite obviously above the “norm”. Shhhh don’t tell….

Now all that talk of 'my precious' makes a lot more sense.

There, don’t you feel better now?

Aunty Brown has a few more questions though; it’s true that I’m the nosy type.

When was the last time you visited the hairdresser?
Three weeks ago…and it was another new hairdresser. I swear I’ve been changing hairdressers almost as often as I change my underwear. OK maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration, and a nasty one at that, but I just can’t seem to find one I’m happy with that can make my curly hair look GOOD. I’m waiting for that magic moment I’ll sit down in the chair and they’ll say “I know just what we need to do.”

Which bit of beauty trickery couldn’t you live without?
Ok, now this is going to look like I have some sort of crazy obsession with my hair…I swear it’s makeup I’m obsessed with…really. I cannot live without hair dye! I have grey hair. A LOT of grey hair. I’ve dyed my hair since high school, back when I wanted to be as blonde as I could be, and it wasn’t until I decided to grow it out and switch to highlights when I was about 21 (and then a redhead) that I discovered I had quite a bit of grey. The thought of not being able to dye my hair is horrifying.

You’ve overslept and have 5 minutes to get out of the house. Are you going out with dirty hair or no makeup?
Absolutely dirty hair. Curly hair shouldn’t be washed everyday anyways so I would give it a spritz of water and make sure I had time to curl my lashes and throw on some mascara and blush. Well really I could probably do a pseudo full face in 5 mins. I got me some skills…

Which trend still makes you cringe?
Giant eye glasses. I remember how much I loved my blue glasses in grade 8 and now I look back at pictures and can’t believe how it was ever “cool” to have glasses covering almost your entire face! As far as I’m concerned it’s still one of the most dating mistakes someone can make to their look. You can get some really cheap eyeglasses these days that are at least modern. OK vent over! Sorry if anyone out there’s rockin the big guns. I think I noticed a trend not all that long ago, that big glasses were actually trying to make a come back, but I pray people shun this attempt! Thankfully I had LASIK eye surgery in December and don’t have to wear glasses anymore. I hadn’t been able to wear contacts in years so it is so nice to feel the world can see my eyes (and all my pretty makeup) again.

Perilous, meet my friend Deidre. She's never met a hairdresser that knew what to do with curly hair either...

Thank you so much to Christa for agreeing to do the Friday Confessional. Hopefully she's still be speaking to me after she's seen Deidre!

If you would like to take a turn and unburden yourself in the Friday Confessional  (and frankly it's getting to the point where I might have to come and drag some of you in there) you can email me at modestybrown@googlemail.com. It's open to everyone: if you have something to confess, I'm happy to hear it!

  2. Loving the Gollum image! Lol!
Only about 2 people know how much I spend on products. Like Becky Bloomwood of the Shopaholic books when someone asks how much a product costs I sometimes say 50-80% less of what it actually costs.

  3. I totally understand the trouble finding hairdressers who know curly hair! I only just found one that makes my curls look good last December.
