I must apologies in advance that my current posts are mostly face of the day in format. I'm on a little mission at the moment to use at least one neglected item from my collection each day. I hope you don't mind me sharing the results with you.
Today's chosen item was MAC Patina eyeshadow. After many mistakes buying neutrals that were too warm for me, this was a breathe of fresh air. The colour is a sort a muted and quite ashy gold with frosty finish. MAC describes it as a 'muted taupe brown with golden shimmer' but I really don't think I would describe it as Taupe, I think the golden shimmer makes it appear less brown to me. I certainly think it's a nice neutral shade for those with cool colouring.
I was inspired to try something a little different colour wise after seeing Bella Queen's beautiful look with NARS Daphne eyeshadow. I wouldn't have thought to put purple and gold together but I thought it looked gorgeous. I'm sorry for the rather excessive number of pictures for this particular FOTD. It was quite difficult to capture the colours and I found they came out better with the flash on. I think the colours look a little muddy in the natural daylight pictures, which is not how it looked in the flesh.

I LOVE patina, it looks so gorgeous with fig.1, would never have thought to put those two together but it works so well x

ReplyDeleteIt's a great combination - I've got no proper eyelids though - am not a snake, have just got deep set eyes! So I just tend to stick with mascara and a spot of liner.
ReplyDeleteMight give this a go though, love gold, love purple, what's not to love about slapping them on?!

Patina is the only MAC shadow I have a back-up of. Pretty combination!

@Alison: Could you wear the colours along the lashline rather than trying to make a fake crease? I'm sure I've seen that used as a technique for those with no definite crease. It is a lovely combination, you should definitely have an experiment (we know how much I like those ;) ).
I had a great holiday thank you. It was pretty much a boy fest though! Electric trains, steam trains, trains up the mountain, looking at tractors at the show, looking at men showing off wood chopping and sawing techniques at the show.....You get the picture!

Your right the colour combination works really well, really suits you. I've always wondered about MAC Patina but worried it would turn out too warm but I think I'll be safe to get it after seeing this! x
ReplyDeleteI've had so many disasters with neutral and gold colours that are wrong on me (yes, I'm looking at you woodwinked) but this is definitely good for cooler toned folk. I think you'd get on well with it. I give you permission to come and cuff me round the head if it doesn't! ;)

Was it in stock when you ordered? I tried last night and EB Dust, Intimate and Catbird were all on back order. I still need to address my basket pruning! I have all sorts in there: Whim of Mine, Gracilis, All Hail, Delilah - Feline Gaze, EB Tender Love. Remind me what I said about £50 again?! ;P

ReplyDelete*Shakes fist* I bet you did! Ah well, it's your duty to report back on whether you need it. I wasn't all that surprised at the Edward Bess eyeshadows being out of stock, I know they've been very popular. I'll have to write to Zu to ask when they're due to get more stock in.
