Laura Mercier Colour Wardrobe

I think palettes hold some mystical power over me. The minute I saw the post and swatches on The Beauty Look Book I was smitten. I actually intended to get last years colour wardrobe but I wasn't quick enough and it had sold out. This time I'm on a spending ban but it doesn't stop me lusting after it.

The palette has two tiers and as well as the colour items it contains two double ended brushes. The top tier contains six eyeshadows and three powder blushers, whilst on the bottom there are six lip stains and two lip glazes. Here are the official details:

Top Level
• Eye Colour in Chocolate, Sable, Twinkling Star, Stellar, Tiger’s Eye and Baroque
• Cheek Colour in Spice, Apricot Blossom and Lotus
• Double-Ended Eye Colour/Corner Eye Colour Brush

Bottom Level
• Lip Stain in Mulberry, Hibiscus, Shy Pink, English Rose, Brick Red and Mocha
• Lip Glaze in Plum and Naked
• Double-Ended Lip Brush

You will be unsurprised to learn that the first three eyeshadows from left to right (Chocolate, Sable and Twinkling Star) are all calling to me. All of the blushers look lovely but I think Spice and Apricot Blossom look particularly wearable. The lip products aren't drawing me in as much as the top tier but the Plum lip glaze looks very much my kind of colour.

The colour wardrobe costs £50 and was released last month. I found it on www.johnlewis.com but there was no sign on the SpaceNK website. I would be interested to know if any of you have spotted it at counters.

  1. Oh this palette looks gorgeous! For some reason I never use the lip products in a palette, so I really shouldn't get this one, but it looks so lovely!

  2. Gorgeous even though I don't really care for lip prodcuts in palettes. I'm a bit obsessed with palettes lately too and there are so many great ones out right now: Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, Trish McEvoy... Waah, I want them all! :D

  5. I agree, that I never use lip palettes, although the eyes and blush colours look lovely. The thing is you can't retouch your lippy without taking the whole palette with you and it's a faff! xx

  6. I picked this up last week from my John Lewis, I haven't used it yet because I have not been able to take a good picture of it to do a post and don't want to take a picture of it after I have used it, and yes I know that is ridiculous!

  7. @Hannah: No jealousy required, I haven’t got it yet and it’s a bit tricky with my shopping ban!

@Kelsey: It is lovely. I do know what you mean about lip pans in palettes, I often neglect them.

@Klara: I want to have a look at the Bobbi Brown ones, I got an email the other day and it looks like they have some lovely stuff out for Christmas. I always forget about Trish McEvoy, I must have a look. Not that I need more temptation you understand ;)

@behindtheshoes: The eyeshadows are really calling to me. They’re really nice versatile colours.

@Mouldy Fruit: Thanks for letting me know about Space, that’s really useful to know. I thought I’d seen it there last year. I’ll have a look at the other palettes on the website…..cue more temptation! Yes, I got the lipstick and I absolutely love it. Thank you so much. I have posted pictures of it in a FOTD and mentioned you :)

@TheBristolBeautyBlog: Yes, I think that is the problem with the lip colours. However, I did pick up a tip at Le Metier about loading up in a retractable lip brush for out and about touch ups. I suppose that would be one way round it.

    Thanks for your comments,

  8. Oooh, you have it already! I will very much look forward to your thoughts and swatches! Waiting for a good picture may well be ridiculous, I'm just the same though so I won't be passing any judgments ;)

  9. I am never really drawn to palettes, I think I rebel against the idea that this will transform my makeup look in a matter of minutes a sort of cannot live without product, a bit like how I rebelled against a handbag of any sort preferring to stuff my pockets with phone, money, lipbalm and tissues. It is a perversity in me, I am aware of it. Of course I got myself a handbag and couldn't believe how organised I felt and how much better the line of my coat looked, so if I apply the same lesson I need to embrace the palette - the trouble is which one? Le Metier or Laura Mercier...? Thankyou Jane xx

  10. I have last years and it is lovely, but I dont reach for it very often. However, I have just ordered Twinkling Star and Tiger's Eye from eBay as I love the new sequin eyeshadows and I'm really excited to hear there's more shades coming out (got the info from Marina at MakeUp4All). :)

  11. Oh, I know all about being perverse. The minute the man on the recorded message "This is a public service message, please don't hang up", he's listening to the dial tone. I don't know what it is about palette that's I like though. Maybe it's because someone else has selected the complimentary shades, I trust that I'm unlikely to mess it up? I do mess up often when it comes to colour pairings.

In terms of which to go for, that's a tricky one. I haven't seen the wardrobe in the flesh. However, someone I know got one last year and raved about it. The Le Metier is Eye Kaleidoscopes are lovely but maybe not as versatile. For you though, I think the Le Metier Face Kit that Grace posted about would be a good choice. I could see you getting a lot of use out of that. I'm right in remembering you're not a big fan of eyeshadows?

  12. Hi Anitacska! That's very interesting that you can get the eyeshadows separately. Is it the same finish in the palette do you know? I should probably investigate some more as the eyeshadows are definitely the most appealing item for me. I shall have a look at Marina's info. Thank you!

  13. As a general rule I avoid palettes because I always find products in them that I dont like so it feels like such a waste of money. however, this one is très cute and absolutely none of the colours are too OTT or bland. In fact I'd go so far as to say they all look gorgeous. And unfortunately completely out of my prince range :)

You should pop it on your Christmas list... Hopefully Santa will be extremely generous this year!

  14. Hi All Made Up! I know what you mean about finding stuff that won't work for you in palettes. It is often the case. I agree with you that all the colours in this palette look nice and very wearable. Lets just hope Santa is full of Christmas cheer ;)
