Berry Lip Stains for Autumn

I finally got round to reading some magazines whilst I was on holiday. The lack of internet had the hidden advantage of spurring me on to do a little reading! I found an article on '20 Reasons to Wear More Make-Up' in a copy of Glamour from a couple of months ago. For a start, more reasons to wear make up is always going to catch my attention but what really grabbed me were the stunning lip stains. I have long been a fan of these sorts of berry shades. I think they herald the Autumn approaching, a fabulous time of year for make up colours in my opinion.

I like the idea of using a colour to stain the lips. It makes it much more wearable if you're a little scared of wearing full on dark lips. The lip products that are mentioned are from left to right: Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Flash in Black-Tie Plum, NARS lipgloss in Strawberry Fields, Giorgio Armani Lip Ink in 1, Clinique Lip Smoothie in Pome-greatness and Guerlain Kiss Kiss Essence De Gloss in Violine. The gorgeous Beauty Bite posted not too long ago about Strawberry Fields lip gloss and it looks beautiful on the lips. I think my favourites from this feature are the Dior Black Tie Plum, Armani Lip Ink and Guerlain Violine. The Giorgio Armani Lip Inks are part of their Autumn 2010 collection out now, which I shall post about in more detail shortly. The Essence de Gloss is part of the Guerlain Autumn collection that I have talked about here.

Other lipsticks that I think would work well as stains are the two darker lipsticks from the Armani Autumn collection; Black Purple and Deep Ruby. You can see pictures here on The Non-Blonde's blog. Tom Ford's Private Blend lip colour in Moroccan Rouge and Black Orchid (see London Make Up girls posts here and here) would also be ideal but I don't hold out much hope for me getting a Tom Ford any time soon! A girl can dream though.

I think a lip stain and statement eyeliner will be a fabulous and easy look for the Autumn. What sort of colours are you looking forward to wearing? Have you seen any inspirational looks recently?

  1. I love berry lip colours! Having dark skin and being reluctant to wear lipstick, they are the only sorts of colours I turn to. Can't wait to hit the shops and check these out. Mr Fords' ones look divine, but the bank balance doesn't always allow me to stop at his counter for too long :-)

  3. Hi BQ, I'll definitely be making a bee-line for the GA counter tomorrow. I may glance at the Tom Ford's from a distance!

Hahaha! Beauty Begins, that is hilarious! Not quite as sexy as I was thinking, lol. ;)

  4. I'm looking out of the window at a dark, grey sky and it's making me think of buying a lovely new pair of boots and a sackload of lip stains!

I am so pleased you did the Armani research as I'm off to Selfridges tomorrow to find my perfect shade. I did a post on berry lips last month, and as much as I love them, I've never been brave enough to wear such a dark lip. Thankfully, all the gorgeous shades out there are a definite incentive! x

  5. I'm so pleased I was dogged on this one! The Armani collection looks lovely and I'm planning on going to look in Selfridges tomorrow too. I really want to do some swatches before I do my collection post but I don't know if I dare!!

I may have to come home with a bit of something. For research purposes you understand ;) I hope you find your perfect shade too.

  6. Always for research purposes! Like I said in my skincare post yesterday, we bloggers have to suffer for our art. It really is such a hardship... :)

Can't wait to see what you come back with. If they've still got the Tokyo Corals collections, I may have to invest in that too. Oops!

  7. You may have just convinced me to try one of these lip stains to dip my toe into the pool of darker lip colours!
To say i'm afraid of anything other than nudes is an understatement...
I only own two lipsticks that do not fall into the nude category (MAC- russian red & Chanel Rouge Allure - passion) and given the size of my lipstick collection, that is a pitiful amount.
I'm a bit lost when it comes to strong lip colours, I feel totally out of my comfort zone. I am always so envious of the people who can carry off the gorgeous autumnal reds, plums and berry colours

  8. @Rachel: It's such a trial isn't it ;). I've never bought any Armani before but I'll be more than happy to rectify that.

@WelshBeautyBlog: I think it's a good way to try a darker lip. I'm the opposite to you, I love looking at nudes and wish I could pull them off but they don't really suit my colouring. I'm better off with darker colours but sometimes wish I good get away with a great nude lip! I look forward to hearing how you get on having a go with a lipstain.

  9. Let me know how you get on. I am currently using their Last Silk foundation and Precision Retouch concealer, both of which I love. I also had a naughty splurge on Crema Nera a while ago, but it's an expensive habit to keep! I've always been very impressed with their lipsticks, but never had anything too dark, so I'll be interested to see how you get on.

Mmm, the packaging is so lovely too! Can't wait to see what you pick up :)

  10. I had a look at the lip skin, it was lovely. A sort of gel texture, but a little thicker than a gel if you see what I mean. It spread really easily and the swatch I did on my hand lasted ages. The problem was that there was only one shade available at the counter. It was quite red based, whereas I was after something more berry/purple. There should be four altogether. I was a bit baffled to be honest!

I did pick up the 604 lipstick (the really dark purple) and hopefully will review it soon. All three of the lipsticks for the collection swatched beautifully. I can see it would be very easy to get hooked on GA products!
