Holiday make up

Photobucket

I will be going on holiday today for a week. It's no where exotic but I'm looking forward to a break away with my family. So, like any self respecting make up obsessive, my thoughts have already turned to what make up I will be taking with me. I thought you might be interested in having a little peak at what's going in the bag.

I'm pretty sure I could get away with taking less than this but I do like the option of a bit of colour variety. I'm talking 2 eyeshadow quads, there's my Smoking quad which I've mentioned here before. I'm mostly taking this for Satin Taupe, but the beige shade Next to Nothing is handy as both a lid colour and a highlighter. In the other quad I've put Vex, Club, Stars N' Rockets as well as Brule which is a staple of my eyeshadow collection. I picked the duochromes because I think they'll be handy for quick but interesting looks. I'm also taking Smut along to give me the option of darkening any crease colours. I prefer Smut to carbon as it's easier to blend and not as harsh on me as black. I will also be taking along Painterly paint pot, Bobbi Brown Caviar Ink gel eyeliner, my mini Suqqu mascara and Shu Uemura eyebrow pencil to complete my eye looks. I'm taking along MAC greasepaint stick in Dirty as this can be used as a liner, eyeshadow base as well an eyeshadow for an easy smokey eye.

The blushers I will be taking along with me are my Edward Bess compact rouge in After Sunset. I want to try this as a lip colour too after reading Get Lippie's recent post. I also picked up Bobbi Brown's Apricot, this gives such a nice pop of colour to the cheeks. Again, I think it will be handy for a quick make up look. I'm taking a sample of Everyday minerals blush is Siesta, which is a subtle peachy pink colour. I've mostly added this to my bag as it's hardly been used and it's a handy size for travel. I've also put my mini Orgasm Illuminator in for the same reason, it's been neglected and I'd really like to give a proper go to see what I make of it.

I'm taking a few different lip products. I'm taking three lipsticks: Rouge Bunny Rouge Irreverence (of course), Edward Bess Secret Desire and Laura Mercier Pink Cocoa. I've also added my Suqqu Dual Gloss colour in EX-03 and Hourglass Extreme Shine lipgloss in Origami. Origami is such a fun colour for a neutrals girl like me. I really hope I get opportunity to wear this. I have my nude lip liner Rimmel Addiction in there too just in case.

I'm taking the Korres tinted moisturiser and Benefit Erase paste along for my base needs. My NARS Laguna bronzer is in the bag too and this doubles up as both my bronzer and mirror. I've stuck in sample size Eve Lom moisturiser. I tend to use moisturiser a bit like base and the size is ideal for a week away. I'm looking forward to seeing how I get on with this. I have a sachet of Nude Miracle Mask which I hope I'll get opportunity to try. I still have to sort out more skincare items but as I will be going to Bicester before we leave, I thought I might spot a handy ex-GWP set with some minis to try.

Last but by no means least, I have packed a little selection of brushes to see me through. The brush case and some of the brushes came from a MAC Christmas set (2004 I think). I've got a 129SE, 224SE, 213SE and 242SE, as well as full size 217 and 209. I think I might need to add my 188 duo fibre as well for applying BB Apricot blush.

What make up do you like to take away with you on holiday? Do you manage to be minimal or do you enjoy the extra time to play? Do you have a favourite palette that you always pack?

  1. I should start thinking of this as well, I'm going away next week. I have no idea yet... but I've got to remind myself to take MORE! (I usually don't take enough)

  3. I'm glad you did this post. At least I know its not just me that over packs the make up. Its always better to have options, than not!

  4. I really like this post because you have given a reason and justification for each piece, you have really thought about what will go together (sorry that sounds patronising - it's meant to be admiring!) have a lovely holiday and don't do what I did one year and leave all my makeup at home on the bed!

  5. @Café Bellini: Are you going anywhere nice? I suppose if you’re going somewhere warm you won’t need to take so much. I always go overboard with make up and then don’t have enough outfits that go together!

@Primp and Preen: Thanks for the encouragement. It was a fun post to do!

@Bella Queen: I don’t think I understand the concept of minimal! I’m hoping I get chance to have a play though and try some of my more neglected items.

@lipstickmama: Thank you for the lovely comment. I will be making a list of items that must go in the car with us (including endless children and baby must-haves) as we always forget something!

Also really looks like you have looked through your collection and found all the right products that you will want/need.

Hope you have a really lovely holiday & come back relaxed with lots of nice new blogposts!

  7. This was really helpful! I'm going to New York at the end of August and I have NO idea what to take make up wise. Mostly because I know the minute I spot a Sephora I'll have loads of new stuff to play with. So what do I take from home? (Especially if we don't go in a Sephora till the end of the week!!) It's a conundrum!

  8. @Makeup_Savvy: I'm pleased you enjoyed it. I hope that I can have a play and get some post inspiration whilst I'm away. I have some new nail polishes that I might take with me too. :)

@sweetest_potato: Lucky you, I'd love to go to New York. I'm looking forward to hearing how you get on. I agree it's probably worth trying to go minimal if you think you'll buy lots at Sephora. Do you have palettes with eye, lip and cheek colours? I love my MAC quad and pan eyeshadows for picking out colours with maximum combination potential too.
