Models Own Purple Ash

I bought the Models Own Purple Ash nail polish when I was ordering for the giveaway. If you're not already aware, the Car Key collection is Models Own's answer to the exclusive Chanel Khaki collection. I really wanted Khaki Rose but it had sold out before I had opportunity. Purple Ash seems to be the 'dupe' for Khaki Rose but I have a feeling it's more similar to the promotional pictures than the polish itself. Certainly the Models Own version is more purple than Khaki Rose which is more rosy brown in colour. You can see swatches of Khaki Rose on London Make Up girl's blog and on Karlasugar.

The polish applied quite well. It's a thick formula so I had to be careful to remove excess from the brush before applying. It wasn't streaky and was reasonably opaque after a single coat. The pictures below are with two coats.

It may not be a good dupe but I like this colour nonetheless. I love murky purples so this is definitely my sort of shade. As ever, I'm reluctant to make comments about the durability of the polish. I applied last night and as you can see there is some tip wear already. I didn't apply any top coat though and I'm forever washing my hands so this doesn't help.

I bought the Car Key polishes from the Boots website. You have to look carefully for the names: Grace Green, Becca's Brown and Purple Ash, as they are listed amongst the permanent line with no swatches.

  1. This is a gorgeous autumny colour - I love this sort of purple too. Had a look in Boots last week but they didn't have these in, I'll have to resist going on the website and ordering from there!

  2. oh thank you for showing us this. i'm in need of new polishes, but get bored with the very dark ones that tend to be around at this time of year - this one is a much incer alternative. i really want disco mix too because i'm really a 5 year old girl trapped in a grown woman's body ;)

  11. This looks lovely with the skin colouring of your hands. I love muddy colours, but my hands seem to be permanently reddish and the clash of undertones is horrible...sigh.

  13. Missy Ellie: I love the colour. I have a feeling that it’s only online at the minute. I ordered online for delivery at my local store so it was free.

    MissisG: Loved your comment! I’m definitely still a little girl at heart. How’s your friend’s little one getting on? I keeping thinking about them and hope they’re making a good recovery x

    @Blushingloves: Thanks lovely, I really like it. I think I need to do a little comparison to some of my other similar colours.

    @Chicky Spouts: I have this on my fingers and Paradoxal on my toes. Definitely my favourite sorts of colours.

    @WelshBeautyBlog: I think it’s just online at the moment. I think you’ll really like it.

    @lipstickmama: I couldn’t resist, I’m rather a fan of the order online and collect in store. There’s a tiny Boots 5 minutes walk away so it’s irresistible!

    @Stavroula: It’s a really nice colour, I’m really pleased that I got it.

    @liloo: Thanks hun xx

    @Ms. Wedgie: Well, with your bargainous new storage it would be almost rude not to! ;)

    @Jess: It’s a very nice colour, definitely worth a look.

    @Debbie: Yes, definitely not a dupes but certainly lovely colours. I enjoyed reading your comments on Make Savvy’s dupe thread x

    @Nina: What a shame, I do know what you mean though. I had a similar problem with the pastel purples. I always find it disappointing when I find a colour I like but can’t wear.

    @Ria: I’m always happy to share :).

    Thanks for all of your comments,
    Jane x

  16. Thanks Sinead. The colours aren't really that similar to the Chanel versions but I think they are very nice in their own right. Definitely worth a look.

    Hi Winnie, I really like this colour. After doing a comparison to some of my others I'm really pleased to say I didn't already have anything similar. It's a very nice shade.
